Let's talk about ARCs and Review Copies! ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) and galleys are effectively the same thing; we use the terms interchangeably here at Red Hen.
At this point, galleys are printing and are being shipped or emailed out to reviewers on Red Hen's default reviewer list. Due to the production timeline, it's likely authors don't get a chance to review ARCs before they're sent to print, but don't worry -- reviewers know that ARCs are bound to still have copyediting errors and won't be fully polished, and often request final copies closer to review run date to ensure they're quoting lines correctly from the final version.
Authors get 10 physical galleys by default that you're welcome to use however you like. We can send these ten copies to you for you to send to your personal contacts, or you can send us a list of places for us to mail copies on your behalf. We won't automatically mail these copies to you unless you specifically request them, just in case you'd prefer Red Hen keep the copies for our own use, so please be sure to let me know if you want these 10 galleys (or more) sent to you! (If you did want more than 10 copies we can definitely talk!)
Whether you plan on mailing your galleys out yourself, or sending us a list of places for us to target for you, here are some things to consider when building your ARC list:

- Regional Media
- Local newspapers or magazines
- Regional bookstores, libraries, and book clubs
- Buyers, reviewers, professors, or anyone in the literary world that you have some connection to that can help spread the word about your book through word of mouth

If you come across a review or mention of your book, please let us know right away by sending the link or review to me! These pieces will become a part of your press packet, will be shared on Red Hen's website and social media, and key media pieces/pull quotes will be added to our metadata for inclusion on Amazon, B&N, Bookshop.org, etc.
Additionally, should any reviews come in to my inbox, I do my best to forward them to the author so you're notified as well!

At this stage in the timeline, galleys are currently being sent to trade reviewers! Our default list of reviewers can be found in the resources list below if you're curious. Digital galleys have been created. If you'd like a copy that you can distribute to reviewers, let me know!

- Create a list of potential contacts that would benefit from receiving an ARC. Either send galleys out to them this month, or send me the list so I can get copies mailed out for you! If you send me the list, it would be extremely helpful if you were able to provide addresses along with the names. Thank you!
