In 2010 we released the first vintage of our Kadette Pinotage Rosé. A humble production of 5000 x 6 cases from that initial vintage has since seen a phenomenal 600% increase in volume to its current production of 35 000 x 6 cases.
While it might seem odd to some that we introduced a pink wine to our much lauded, stately red wine portfolio, the addition of our rosé was a natural progression for a number of reasons. The fact that Kanonkop is synonomous with the Pinotage grape variety, further aided this decision. Pinotage is ideally suited to making rosé-style wines - it is expressive and aromatic on the nose, and offers plenty of red berry fruit flavours and a lovely fruit-sweetness on the palate.
Enjoying a glass of refreshing, ice cold rosé before tasting our famous red wines, is a welcome addition for visitors to our cellardoor during the hot summer months.
Produced from grapes selected from vineyards specifically farmed for rosé, and sourced from top sites in the Stellenbosch and Paarl region, this is not a by-product of red wine making.
It is a red wine drinker's rosé, made in a bold and dry style, with an inviting coral pink colour.
Bright aromas of summer berries and a touch of cinnamon spice on the nose is followed by luscious flavours of raspberries, cherries and strawberries on the palate. Combine all of this with a burst of tangy acidity, and you have a wine that is perfect to enjoy as an aperitif.
