Help celebrate LLS alumna Patricia Phillips '67 when she receives the inaugural Elizabeth L. Kenney Women of Achievement Award from LACBA President’s Advisory Committee on Women in the Legal Profession (PAC-Women). The award will be given on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at a celebration starting at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Indigo in DTLA. Examining Case that Struck Down Interracial Marriage Ban

LLS and the California Supreme Court Historical Society will look at the California Supreme Court’s 1948 decision in Perez v. Sharp, which struck down the state’s ban on interracial marriage. The civil rights lawyer who successfully litigated this case is an LLS and LMU alumnus, Daniel Marshall '25 JD '26. California Supreme Court Justice Joshua Groban will welcome the program, renowned trial lawyer Joseph Cotchett will co-narrate it, and Michael Traynor will provide additional insights. More>>

Library to Host Crafternoon: Angel Ornament Edition

Want to build a holiday angel ornament on Monday, Nov. 21? Holiday treats and all crafting supplies are provided, but you must sign up in advance by emailing yun.so@lls.edu and indicating the session you'd like to attend: [Session A: 12-1 p.m.] or [Session B: 5-6 p.m.]. Both sessions will be held in the Rains Library Director's Conference Room (located at the back of the 1st floor). An angel ornament takes less than an hour to make. More>>

Western Conference on Tax Exempt Orgs Set for Dec. 1-2, 2022

LMU Loyola Law School and UCLA School of Law’s Program on Philanthropy and Nonprofits will host the 26th-annual Western Conference on Tax Exempt Organizations. This in-person conference will run Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza in downtown Los Angeles. The two-day conference includes 13 sessions on legal developments of critical importance to charities and other nonprofit organizations. The conference features an array of prominent tax-exemption experts including officials from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS, plus prominent West Coast lawyers and accountants. Ellen Aprill, a WCTEO founder and the John E. Anderson Chair in Tax Law Emerita at LLS, is a co-organizer. More>>

Asian Pacific American Bar Hosts 'Firsts in Law' Event

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles County is hosting its 2022 Recent Trailblazers in the Law event in celebration of recent historic "firsts" in the legal profession. The event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 6-7 p.m. and will feature a Zoom reception in honor of this year's recipients, followed by a virtual panel discussing the honorees' paths to success and contemporary challenges in the legal world. Faculty/Staff: Open Enrollment Runs through Nov. 18

Open Enrollment for benefits runs through Friday, Nov. 18. The shift from Anthem to Aetna health insurance means many faculty and staff must take action on insurance coverage by Nov. 18. The Open Enrollment Resources page contains useful information about the process.
