NPMM Links and Opportunities

Supply lists for the upcoming school year and Summer Reading lists are available now on our website under the "Resources" section.  Because we were unable to provide the books for grades 3rd - 8th this year, we decided to read the books aloud to the students!  Be sure to check out the fun videos of our very NP teachers!  You will also find a list of books recommended by the Chattanooga Public Library.
Interested in being a Room Parent (Lower School), grade level representative (Upper School), or, new to Normal Park, a related art resprentative (LS and US) for the 2020-21 school year? Please contact Heather Cockerham cockerham_h@hcde.org. These positions offer a great way to get involved in the life of Normal Park and to get to the teachers and staff. The Parent Volunteer Coordinators will guide you through this process and offer you step by step ways to serve in this role. Contact us today!
Interested in getting Chattanooga Public Library cards for your children--or confirming their card number in case the card is currently missing--so they can access the CPL's e-book and digital audiobook collections, as well as the streaming research materials, please email hcdecards@chattanooga.gov with your student's full name as it appears on their school registration, their date of birth, and something like, "Yes, I agree to the Policies & Procedures of the Chattanooga Public Library," below.

CPL Library Card Policy
My child has permission to register for a public library card. In order for him/her to receive library card privileges and/or services, the Chattanooga Public Library has permission to access my child’s information from the Hamilton County Department of Education. I understand that I will be responsible for all fines and charges associated with this card. It is the policy of the Chattanooga Public Library that parents or guardians, not the library staff, are responsible for monitoring and approving the selection of materials made by their children. It is the parents or guardians – and only these – who may restrict their children from access to library materials and services. Parents or guardians who wish to block their children from borrowing items from the young adult and adult collections should visit any of our public library locations and request for library staff to issue a card limited to borrowing materials with a juvenile designation. Replacement cost for a lost card is $1.00. If your child loses his/her card, please come to any of our public library locations with your ID to purchase a replacement.

Report Cards:
For grades 3rd-8th - When you check your child's grade in PowerSchool, you may see a grade for Q4. This is how teachers kept record of the work being completed for our Q4 virtual learning. This grade is only calculated into the Y1 grade if it helped to improve the student's overall grade. If you need a printed report card, you may request one at willmore_c@hcde.org

K-2: Q4 comment cards will be sent home with classroom item pick up at your designated time.
3rd-8th: Grades and teacher comments can be found through the Power School parent portal. If you have questions about how to access the parent portal, please reach out to:

Upper School: Billie Jo Bowes (bowes_billie@hcde.org)
Lower School: Heather Buttram (buttram_h@hcde.org)

To enroll in parent portal, you will need the access ID and password for your child (obtained from the school). If you have more than one child, you will need the access ID and password for each one in order to attach them to your account. Once you create your account, you will be able to access all students attached to it with the one login you create. To create a single sign-on parent account:

NOTE: If you do not have the access Ids and passwords of additional students at this time, they can be added to your account later.
7. You should now be at the portal sign-in page. Enter the username and password you chose when you created the account.

ONCE LOGGED IN:
The "Grades and Attendance" tab will allow you to check assignments and scores (click on the blue percentage across from a class)
•“Grade History” will show you the grades your child received in previous grading periods.

ReadyRosie:

Summer Reading

ReadyRosie has been made available to all families across Tennessee with children who are birth - 3rd grade at no cost! ReadyRosie is an on-line education tool that provides at home instructional videos with activities parents can do with their children. TN families have access to these free resources through September 1st.

Once families sign up, they will receive weekly text messages or emails with a curated playlists of activities. Tennessee Department of Education is aligning the content with state standards as well as the lessons being aired on PBS. The "video moments" are around two-minutes long in both English and Spanish. They feature real families demonstrating instructional activities that parents can replicate with their own children. Topics include early literacy, early math, health and well-being.

Families with students in grades K-2nd will automatically receive an invitation around the first of May as this is a part of the summer literacy pilot. However, I recommend encouraging  all your families in grades PreK - 3rd to register now at http://readyrosie.com/en/tn.  If families have a student in K, 1st or 2nd, once the upload is completed in early May, they may receive another invitation to register but this should not affect the family's account.
