Captain's Message

We hope you find our newsletter to be insightful, informative, and entertaining.  As Layer 8 CFO, I welcome your comments.  Our team of account reps and technical support want to provide you with world class service.  The AV Integration and Production business is full of talented people.  Stealing a line from SynAudCon founder Don Davis ... two people exchanged a dollar with each other, and they both then had a dollar.  Those two same people exchanged an idea, and now they each have two ideas.

Cool Gear

Powersoft is an Italian manufacturer of some of coolest technologies in the audio industry.  With its roots in regenerative power, Powersoft Armonia Plus is the most advanced loudspeaker management platform available.  From a 320W to a 40kW unit, Powersoft is the standard for touring and installations.  Pictured here are the Mezzo amplifiers, which are 1/2 rack units with power sharing and other features that make your projects work better.  It can be a simple as holding down a button on the rear panel for 3 seconds and having the amplifier output test signals that allow for setting limiters and high pass filters automatically.  It's cool, it's smart, it's Mezzo!

Loudspeaker System Optimization: Part 1

Loudspeaker optimization is best done using amplifiers with loudspeaker management, period.

Q: Why not do it with that fancy system DSP that says it can do everything from control systems to immersive sound?

A: If you're really, really smart and have oodles of time to waste in programming and testing, have at it.

I have a zillion anecdotal stories of complete fails when people have attempted this. Ask me, and I'll tell you about the major league ballpark fail, or the SI fail at the HS football stadium, or the church with the mostly blown up line array. It's an almost endless list of AV malpractice. Don't be that person or company!  

Be a Student for Life

For us AV folks, the process of education and learning should never end. Engineering degrees and technical accreditations do matter! Standards matter!

Persons, Places and Thingamabobs

Estrella comes to us from Denver, CO, where she worked as a Project Engineer for CENSEO AV+Acoustics, a consulting firm in the area. Prior to her work in consulting, Estrella worked for an integrator as a Design Engineer. She received her 
degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and rock climbing.
