Dear Friend,
Wow, I can’t believe November is already here! The year is moving quickly and it’s almost time for the semester to come to a close. However, before any of that takes place, we have a couple events scheduled that I don’t want you to miss. First, our annual Veteran's Day breakfast will be held on Friday, November 15. The official holiday is Monday, November 11, but it is important we celebrate the contributions of our veterans each and every day. The freedoms we all enjoy are protected by the service of our veterans. This protection, coupled with increased access to education are two things that make veterans extremely important to American society. Veterans help to establish what is known today as the "middle class." With the establishment of the G.I. Bill, as well as other federal legislation, home ownership was made possible for working-class Americans. For these and many other reasons, we have to say thanks to all of our veterans. So, find a way to be kind to our veterans on Monday and every day.
Next, I know you have been waiting… and now, the wait is over- our next Penguin Nights will also occur Friday, November 15 from 10:00pm to 2:00am. Get there early because the bingo cards will go fast!
Finally, we are ending the month with our annual Friendsgiving dinner on Thursday, November 21. So students, before you go home to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with your family, celebrate with your YSU family and enjoy a dinner with all the trimmings. I hope to see you there!
Enjoy the newsletter and Go Penguins.
Respectfully,

Feeling the Pressure?
Managing anxiety begins with taking control of what is within your control. You can begin your journey by adopting these healthy lifestyle choices and implementing these strategies.
Make lifestyle changes that will help you bounce back from life’s stressors.
Work on self-care:
| |
- Make sure you have restful adequate sleep. The recommended amount is in between 7-9 hours.
- Eat nutritionally. For information on YSU Dining's nutrition info, click here.
- Exercise. Start small and take the stairs up to class, or walk on breaks.
- Have a support system. Connect with fellow students at University events or join a student organization.
| |
Practice relaxation strategies to calm and ground yourself in the moment: try breathing exercises, imagery, and mindfulness techniques. For ideas on how to do some of these techniques, click here.
If you are experiencing anxiety and want to discuss further, please contact Student Counseling (330) 941-3737, to schedule an individual appointment or a workshop for your organization/group to begin your journey toward managing anxiety.
