The Middle School Musical Theater Class is proud to present Aladdin Jr. on Friday, May 18 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 pm. There will also be a special school-day performance for neighboring elementary schools on Friday, May 18 at 10:00 am
Come see this amazing cast of 7th and 8th grade students who have been rehearsing harmonies, dance steps, and dialogue this semester; the choreographers are our very own Lina Miller '20 and Emma Lawrence '20. In this beloved musical, Aladdin learns the important values of life through his encounters with Princess Jasmine, her father the Sultan, his friends, the evil Jafar and Lago, the townsfolk, and of course the magnificent Genie. It's a whole new world and you won't want to miss it!
RUMMAGE RULES!
Thanks to our donors and volunteers, the Prep Rummage Sale had another great and successful year! We grossed $23,000 with a net of more than $21,000. We can add to that about $2,000 in items that many departments scooped up for their programs at Prep; Athletics, Visual and Performing Arts, TAP, Environmental Education, Administration, and Maintenance all found things they needed. So really, the sale netted about $23,000! Both tuition assistance at Prep and Breakthrough Santa Fe depend on us, and we delivered yet another year!

It's amazing, really. Piles of items from the homes of our community come together in our school gym and go out to people who want or need them, to many who could not afford them new, and then all the leftovers go further down the charitable line to keep benefitting people and staying out of the landfill. All that "stuff" adding up in little bits to thousands of dollars to help kids get a great education.

What a worthy effort! Thank you.

LIBRARY NEWS
The following are the top ten books checked out at Prep this year from one to ten: Ghost; In Real Life; York; Ten; Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe; Carry On; Everything, Everything; Far From the Tree; Patina; and Fault in Our Stars.
Summer is almost here and that means it is time for our Summer Reading Suggestions Lists for our rising seventh and eighth graders. The rising seventh graders will receive their list at the Welcome to Prep Picnic on Tuesday, May 8, and the rising eighth graders will receive their copy the week of May 14. There will be extra copies in the library and a digital copy on the Prep library page as well.
Details for our Middle School Read 5 Challenge (read 5 books over the summer) and Top Three Students (read the most books over the summer) will be on the suggested reading lists. Ice-cream sundaes and bookstore gift certificates are in the prize mix!
We encourage students to check out books over the summer. Our last new book orders of the school year have arrived and we have some wonderful choices: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi; The Serpent’s Secret by Sayantani Dasgupta; American Street by Ibi Zoboi; Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake; and Escape from Aleppo by N.H. Senzai.
It is time to check around the house for Prep library books that need to be returned. We will be emailing notices to students and parents next week.
Finally, don’t forget about the public library! Santa Fe Public, Los Alamos Public and Albuquerque/Bernalillo Public all have amazing digital access to books and audiobooks, via the Libby app. If you want to learn more, stop by the Prep library, I am happy to help.
Happy Reading!

ATHLETIC NEWS
The Girls Lacrosse team finished their regular season with a win last Friday over the Albuquerque Scorpions. This win left them with a perfect season in conference play and was a fitting way to celebrate the seniors on the team: Julia Brock, Aidan Daly, Teslin Ishee, and Francesca Maestas. The girls begin state championships as the #1 seed, hosting Los Alamos on Sun Mountain Field at 5:00 pm Tuesday, May 1. Finals are Friday, May 5, at Balloon Fiesta Park at 5:00 pm.

The Boys Lacrosse team finished the regular season and earned a #4 seed in the state tournament. This past Saturday, they played the #1 seeded Duke City team and lost. As the team continues to improve and develop their young talent, we can look forward to a promising season next year.

The Baseball team qualified for the state championships by earning a #15 seed. They travel to Estancia this Wednesday, May 2, to face the #2 seeded Bears in the first round of state. Good luck, Blue Griffins!

The Tennis team just concluded their district tournament this past weekend in Taos. The girls finished third overall and the boys had an impressive second-place finish. Both teams earned a berth to the state tournament, which begins in Albuquerque on Friday, May 5, with the girls at 10:30 am and the boys at 3:00 pm. A few individuals also showed well over the weekend and will compete in individual competitions this Wednesday, May 2 at the Sierra Vista West Tennis Complex in Albuquerque: Cole Gartner '18 placed fourth in districts and will compete in the singles bracket at 3:00 pm; the doubles team of Isabel Vionescu '22 and Grace Vivian '22 finished in second place and will compete in the doubles bracket at 4:30 pm. Go Blue Griffins!

In glorious fashion, the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams gave Coach Tove Shere a winning send-off in her final year as head coach. Both teams crushed the competition, earning district titles. This is especially impressive for the girls, as it was their 28th consecutive district championship win. The thirty-seven athletes we are sending to the state championships is a testament to the strength of the program Tove has built.

There were also some noteworthy individual accomplishments at last Friday's district track meet in Dulce: Sam Sparks '19 set a school record in the triple jump, with a 42-7 mark; Hayden Colfax '20 set a school record of 15.70 in the 100-meter hurdles; Isabel Vionescu '22 set a middle school record in the triple jump, with a 33-3 mark; Josh Abeyta '22 and Harry Browning '22 finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run. Congratulations to all the track and field athletes and best of luck at state this Friday and Saturday on the UNM track!
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Our seventh grade students are currently studying the Civil Rights Movement in Lisa Nordstrum's New Mexico History class. After watching Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and holding classroom discussions and group conversations, the students created their own speeches. These speeches, reflecting the issues of today and the students' hope for change, are posted in various locations in the main administration building. We invite visitors to pause, read, and reflect on these students' works.
Prep's annual Middle School Blue & White Track Meet is scheduled for Monday, May 21. The day will begin at 8:45 am with field events at Sun Mountain Field in the morning and will end with running events at the Santa Fe HS track beginning at 12:30 pm.

Students must arrive to school this day wearing their entire PE uniform. Parent volunteers are needed and welcome! We are specifically looking for timers and pickers at the SFHS track. For more information, please contact Rennae Ross at rross@sfprep.org.
THIRD ANNUAL OASIS FESTIVAL
The Convergence Project is currently working with AMP Concerts to organize the third annual OASIS FESTIVAL, which will feature the "soulful, folk-tronic" Overcoats and performances from local teen musicians, bands, and singers. The festival takes place on Saturday, May 26, 5:30 - 10:00 pm at the Santa Fe Railyard by the water tower. This is a FREE event!

In addition to music, there will be performances from Wise Fool New Mexico, as well as a “dance surprise” from NDI. There will also be a chalk art competition (sponsored by The Violet Crown and the William Siegal Gallery) that will have multiple cash and Convergence Project merch prizes. For inquiries about the Oasis Festival or any other events or projects, email us at sfconvergence@gmail.com or visit our website at sfconvergence.org.

GRIFFIN
SHOUT OUTS
On Monday, April 23, our middle school students walked, skipped, and ran over 700 miles to raise a pledge amount of over $7000 in the 38th Danny Maas Run at Rancho de las Golondrinas. This amount will be matched by a generous anonymous donor, bringing our total pledge amount to over $14,000 to contribute to the Danny Maas Run Fund, managed by the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
We have not been able to find a family in the area with a child affected by cancer to help, so our students have chosen to send five children to Camp Enchantment, a Pediatric Oncology Summer Camp held in the Manzano Mountains.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the run sponsors, without whom the event would not have been possible!

Shout out to Zoe Lipscomb '19 who has been recognized as a valued volunteer by the Santa Fe Horse Shelter. Volunteer coordinator Michele Wolford shares, "Over the past two years Zoe has gone from a giggly girl to a solid horse handler able to deal with some of our most difficult horses. She has been so dedicated, coming extra days whenever her school is not in session. Zoe always sends me a text 'I don't have school tomorrow. Is it okay if I come out?' She is so respectful to everyone, never over-stepping her boundaries. She also is very dedicated to her horse "Slick" that she adopted from the shelter. She always balances her time well between her school studies, volunteering, and spending time with her horse. Zoe is a gem and she will be greatly missed as a volunteer and as a friend when she leaves for college." Nice work, Zoe!
Visual Arts Chair Alex Peña is participating in the 14th Annual Native Treasures Art Market. Produced by the Musem of Indian Arts and Culture, this nationally-recognized Native art market and benefit is a juried/invitational event that will be held at the museum on Memorial Day weekend, May 25 - 27.
THANK YOU!
We send a huge thank you to our Big Head Todd and The Monsters "Rock Star" sponsors: Gemini Rosemont and Hutton Broadcasting!
