Georgia Tech earned a STARS Gold Rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.   

With more than 1,200 participating institutions in 52 countries, AASHE’s STARS program is the most widely recognized framework in the world for publicly reporting comprehensive information related to a college or university’s sustainability performance. 

The STARS report at Georgia Tech is managed by the Office of Sustainability. The report and related data are now publicly accessible via the STARS reporting platform. 

As a green cleaning champion, Facility Operations Coordinator Wendy Welker has assisted the Services department in achieving more than 8 national green cleaning awards and certifications during her 17-year career at Georgia Tech. Her commitment to eco-friendly products and practices and participation in diverse sustainability initiatives has made the Georgia Tech campus a healthier and greener place.

The newly refreshed Student Sustainable Living Guide offers actionable tips on how to reduce your environmental impact as a Georgia Tech student.

Price Gilbert Library will soon collect pens and markers for recycling thanks to Katherine Nguyen. As part of her work with the Biosciences Unified Graduate Students organization, the PhD student in Biomedical Engineering began placing Terracycle drop-off containers around campus to recycle writing instruments. Other drop-off locations at Georgia Tech include the Engineered Biosystems Building, the Petit Biotechnology Building, and the Molecular Science and Engineering Building. 

From bringing green-building concepts to places of worship to protecting native species on campus, the Kendeda Fellows and student assistants who support the Office of Sustainability make positive impacts in their communities.
