The 2022 Undergraduate Research Scholar Awards recognize the most outstanding projects from each year's crop of amazing student researchers. This year's prizes went to undergrads working in biology, chemistry, sociology, philosophy, and environmental science.

Governor signs into law research at the Old Fort boarding school site 

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, Representatives Barbara McLachlan and Leslie Herod, and tribal leaders were on campus this week to sign HB 22-1327, a law mandating archaeological and archival research at two boarding school sites in Colorado. 

Nearly 500 students graduate from FLC

Fort Lewis College hosted an outdoor commencement on May 14 under a bright blue sky to celebrate nearly 500 graduating seniors. Thousands of friends and family members filled up FLC’s Ray Dennison Memorial Field with love and raucous applause for the Skyhawks.

For Heather Shotton, Fort Lewis College’s new vice president for Diversity Affairs, the heart of her work as a higher education leader is based in equity. Focused on a bold vision for FLC, Shotton looks to transform experiences for all students on campus. 

FLC receives award from national funder for STEM inclusivity

Fort Lewis College received a $25,000 award from the U.S. National Science Foundation for its top submission in the Taking Action: COVID-19 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Challenge

FLC alumnus named cycling director 

Ian Burnett—former Skyhawk and pro cyclist—is taking the helm of FLC cycling. Burnett (Business Administration-Finance, '10) has been with the club team since 2010 as the track and road coach.

Rachel Medina (Geology, '13) was elected as mayor of Cortez, Colorado. She first joined the Cortez City Council in April 2020 for a four-year term and will serve as mayor for two years.
