Faculty Focus Newsletter
In their first year at UO, 44 percent of first-time students receive at least one D, F, N or W grade, which decreases student persistence and disrupts their academic plan, increasing time to degree for many students. This rate has been consistent well before the pandemic or the implementation of the First-Term Grade Forgiveness policy. While these students have a tougher path, most persist to graduation. In fact, among graduating students at UO, more than 60 percent have received at least one DFNW. Read the Oregon Rising Memo for more details.

The 2026 University Commencement Ceremony will be held at Autzen Stadium on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 9 a.m. As a reminder, we are implementing a consolidated, one-day commencement celebration this year, with school and college ceremonies scheduled to take place later that same day, at a variety of campus venues, including Matthew Knight Arena, Autzen Stadium and Hayward Field. Details about all ceremony times and locations can be found on the university’s commencement website
Food Resources for Students
The Basic Needs program at UO is working with ASUO on a plan to support students during the upcoming suspension of SNAP benefits. Faculty members are encouraged to share the Basic Needs website and refer students who may need additional support to fill out the Basic Needs Assistance form.
To support campus efforts directly, you can share information on the “Ducks Give: Feed the Flock Pantry Donations” on the official UO donation site (in the “Search Designation” box, type the word Miscellaneous and scroll through the list to find the “Feed the Flock: The UO Student Food Pantry Fund” and use the + button).
