Grace Period
Your final quiz for Fall 2019:

If you are finishing your studies, how long may you remain in the U.S.?

A. Until my I-20 or DS-2019 expires
B. Until graduation
C. Until the end of 2019
D. None of these

If you chose D (none of these), you are correct!

F-1 students who are completing their program of study in December and have maintained legal status will have a 60-day grace period following their completion. This grace period will begin on December 14 and will expire on February 11. By February 11, students must take one of the following actions:
Students who depart the US during their grace period without applying for OPT or a new I-20 may not re-enter the US in F-1 status. For example, you cannot visit Canada or Mexico and then re-enter the US before departing for your home country.

J-1 students who are completing their program in December only have a 30-day grace period to remain in the United States.

Note: If your I-20 or DS-2019 is expiring and you will not complete your studies by your document end date, you do not have a grace period. Contact ISSS immediately for assistance before your document expires.
