Hidden Treasures - South African Wines from Decades Past
Established Sommelier Higgo Jacobs and Executive Chef Archie Maclean will be hosting one of the most memorable wine dinners of the year in October when they will pair a carefully designed 4 course menu with some of South Africa's greatest wines from the past.
The age-ability of our wines is often overlooked due to more modern expressions from the 90's and early 2000's not keeping as well as the much more rare legends from the era before. Wine critics locally and internationally have discovered the greatness in these wines, resulting in them now being very hard to find, especially those with provenance of origin and storage. They can only be purchased in very small quantities on the Nederburg Auction in selective years.
The wines on show on the evening will be:
First Course - Constantia Uitsig Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (showing the wonderful age-ability of Sauvignon Blanc from the cool Constantia valley)
Second Course - Lanzerac Pinotage 1967 (sold at 2015 Auction for R3040 per 375ml bottle)
Third Course - Zonnebloem Cabernet Sauvignon 1961 (the lesser 1965 vintage sold for R4750 per 750ml bottle at the 2014 Auction)
Dessert - KWV Tawny Port 1939 (Priceless. KWV is selling individual bottles of the 1948 vintage for R8000 per bottle)
5 October 2016 | 19:00 | Catharina's Restaurant | R1900 per person
Reservations will be closed at 20 guests due to limited bottles of wine.
The evening will be presented in an intimate, relaxed and informal dining environment, but with a serious focus and attention to detail for the wine.
