This month, we bring you a few rules updates, a revised list of Leading Chapter Award winners, and a chance to select the biggest moments in NSDA history. Dive in below, and don't forget to submit your tournament dates by end of day TODAY, November 15!

Revised Leading Chapter Winners

The October newsletter included a list of Leading Chapter Award winners that contained errors. We apologize for the misinformation and the subsequent delay in the award. The revised list of winners for the 2016-2017 school year is now available.

The Biggest Moments in Our History

We’re excited to share that we’ve received a grant to turn the National Speech & Debate Association headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa, into a historical archive of speech and debate moments. As part of this process, we are creating a physical timeline of the organization’s history to cover the halls of our headquarters in the format below.
In this surveyyou have the opportunity to weigh in on what should be included on the NFL/NSDA “First 100 Years” timeline. We’d love to hear what you, as a leader of our organization, think are the biggest moments in our history, as well as what you believe to be the most powerful and impactful speaking moments in history. To provide feedback, please complete this brief survey by November 22. We can’t wait to share the finished product!

Recognize Student Achievement

The cover story in the latest issue of Rostrum celebrates the tenth anniversary of the William Woods Tate, Jr., National Student of the Year Award. We hope reading the past recipients' reflections on their time in speech and debate will inspire you to give out the District Student of the Year Award at your tournament. Please encourage members of your district to nominate a graduating student for consideration by completing this form and to pick up a few tips on writing great recommendations
Chairs, when you report the tournament results, you'll also let us know here who received your district's Student of the Year Award. That individual will be added to the list of contenders for the 2018 William Woods Tate, Jr., National Student of the Year Award.

Guide to More Local Awards

Last year we shared tips to help you with the local award aspect of tournament hosting. Check it out and start planning how you'll thank your local champions and recognize those who go above and beyond for speech and debate this year. And don't forget, these awards are available to you at no additional cost!
