Mutating worms
Autosomal primary microcephaly is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs when children are born with abnormally small heads and brains. While scientists know it is caused by a genetic mutation, Assistant Professor Jyoti Iyer and a cadre of undergraduate researchers are studying microscopic worms that share a remarkably similar gene with humans in order to help advance diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
