Just this afternoon, the Chamber learned that it has won its lawsuit against Cook County on behalf of its members; the Cook County Use Tax has been declared invalid by the Illinois Appellate Court.
Last week, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce was featured in the news after weighing in on three public policy issues of importance to our members.
Take a look at our recent media mentions:
Jim Kane, CEO of Kane & Co. and Chair of the Chamber’s Taxation Forum, penned an Op-Ed for the Chicago Tribune last Thursday entitled “Blame U.S. tax code for tax evasion”.
"The blame for the current rash of inversions rightfully should be assigned to the U.S. tax code. Our federal tax code incentivizes American companies to substantially reduce their tax liability by relocating their corporate headquarters outside of the U.S."
John Carpenter, the Chamber’s Vice President of External Affairs, was quoted in opposition of the advocacy group Earned Sick Time Chicago in a Daily Whale article.
“While no employer would want an employee to come to work while ill, the fact of the matter is … the mandatory sick time proposed in this ordinance is really just additional days off with pay,” Carpenter said. “Whether it’s vacation, whether it’s sick time; it’s still time away from the job [with pay].”
The Chamber joined a coalition of groups opposing a push from the Chicago City Council Finance Committee to mandate a higher grade of ethanol in Chicago – E15, gasoline that is 15 percent ethanol.
"A coalition of groups including the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the Chicago Automobile Trade Association and AAA opposed the ordinance and pushed for E15 sales to be suspended."
