Fall 2016 series begins on October 3rd at Brevard College
Brevard NC—Brevard Music Center (BMC), in partnership with Brevard College, is pleased to announce the return of its
First Mondays series of free BMC Community Concerts in Brevard.
On
Monday, October 3rd at 12:30 PM, celebrated French hornists
Elizabeth Freimuth and
Hazel Dean Davis will be joined by pianist
Koeun Grace Lee for BMC’s
First Mondays concert – held at the Porter Center (Scott Concert Hall) on the Brevard College campus. Ms. Freimuth and Ms. Davis are also distinguished faculty members of the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute.
October’s program will include: Brahms’s Horn Songs, Mozart’s Duetta con Coro from
Così Fan Tutte, Monteverdi’s Pur ti Miro from
L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Fauré’s Puisqu'ici–bas toute Âme, and Kuhlau’s Concertino in F minor for Two Horns.
The popular Brevard-based,
First Mondays recital series is presented at no cost to the general public – October through May (excluding January) – on the first Monday of each month at Brevard College. BMC’s series of free concerts in Asheville (
Sundays with BMC) and Hendersonville (
First Tuesdays) will resume in March through May of 2017.

First Mondays concert also features a local charity highlighting needs within the Brevard community; October’s charity is Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding and Education.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Elizabeth Freimuth is the principal horn of the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras. Before joining the CSO in 2006, Elizabeth was principal horn of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra (2005-2006), principal horn of the Kansas City Symphony (2000-2005) and assistant principal horn of the Colorado Symphony (1998-2000).
In 2011, Elizabeth Freimuth joined the Adjunct Horn faculty at the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music. She has also given numerous master classes and has done guest teaching at Indiana University, The Eastman School of Music, The University of Evansville, San Francisco Conservatory, Dayton University, Ohio State University, University of Northern Colorado, the University of Northern Iowa and Interlochen School of the Arts.
Elizabeth is a graduate and recipient of the coveted Performer's Certificate of the Eastman School of Music (B.M.) and a graduate of Rice University Shepherd School of Music (M.M.) where she studied horn with Verne Reynolds, W.Peter Kurau and William VerMeulen respectively.
Hazel Dean Davis moved to Boston in 2015 where she is a freelance horn player, playing regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Pops, and the Grammy nominated chamber orchestra, A Far Cry. Previously, Hazel played second and fourth horn with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra for 11 years, a job she won at age 22. Hazel spends her summers as a faculty artist and teacher at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina.
Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Hazel graduated from Harvard University in 2003 with a BA in Biological and Social Anthropology, where she studied horn with James Sommerville of the Boston Symphony. In addition, Hazel has studied with Caroline Lemen and Kendall Betts in St. Paul, and with Julie Landsman at The Juilliard School, where she received a Graduate Performance Diploma in 2004.
South Korean native
Koeun (Grace) Lee is an avid performer, educator, and conference lecturer across the United States. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and a Post Master's Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and an Artist Diploma from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Dr. Lee currently resides in Asheville, and recently joined the piano faculty of Brevard College and Mars Hill University. She also teaches at the Academy for the Arts at First Baptist Church of Asheville.
