| Partnering to support your student's success
|
| |
|
Denison's Family Guide is both a source of campus news (there are really cool things happening here) and a resource to help your student flourish. Ultimately, we want to help your student take control and build their own unique experience — and we know your partnership is essential to making that happen.
|
Dear Denison Families,
It's been a fantastic last few weeks on campus. Last week, we celebrated our 1831 Awards, recognizing seniors who have made lasting contributions on our campus. And the above photo was taken at the NCAA Swim & Dive National Championship, showing our Denison Families in full force supporting the Big Red in Greensboro, North Carolina. Both teams competed for national titles, with our women finishing second and our men sixth.
April is such a full month on The Hill, filled with end-of-year celebrations, recognition and award ceremonies, athletic competitions, arts performances, and (hopefully) gorgeous weather, allowing students to spend a lot of time outdoors, engaging in conversations with peers, faculty, and staff.
As always, thank you for all that you do to support your student's success! We appreciate your partnership.
Julie Tucker '09, Director of Family Engagement

From Knowlton: Intentionally Using the Summer
|
Encourage your student to think about how they will use their summer. Ask them what internships, research experiences, or other opportunities they are considering. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our Denison Edge Summer Virtual Programs to build skills in marketing, finance, and business. Encourage them to utilize the Knowlton Center in the next few weeks to discuss opportunities. They can also use our Ask a Denisonian platform to connect with alumni.

Earth & Environmental Sciences took 12 students and three faculty to northern Arizona where they saw the Grand Canyon, the famous Meteor Crater, petrified wood at the Petrified Forest National Park, ancient petroglyphs at Agua Fria National Monument, and much more. Denison Seminar 251, "Arab Christian Communities," spent spring break in Spain in Toledo, Cordoba, and Granada. Toledo and Cordoba were centers of Arab culture (Jewish, Christian, and Muslim) during Umayyad rule in the Iberian Peninsula, and Granada was the last Muslim kingdom of Iberia. Students visited archeological sites, participated in and led discussions on related themes, and experienced Spanish culture first-hand.

Denison offered the first-ever study trip to Korea for students in our history! Through their unforgettable travels, students deepened their understanding of Korea's various social movements and political development from a global perspective. This picture was taken at the Seodaemun Prison Museum, where students learned about the history of the Imperial Japanese occupation of Korea (1910-1945) and Korea's democratization movements (1945-1987).
