Congratulations to Debbie Herrin, our Contracts and Grants Administrator, on her incredible 20 years of service at Tarleton State University. For two decades, Debbie has brought reliability and a genuine passion for her work, making her an invaluable part of our Tarleton family.
Fun Facts: Debbie enjoys gardening and spending time outdoors. She loves to spoil her 11-year-old Australian Shepard "Buddy"!

| Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller Visits RIED |
|
|
|
RIED was honored to host Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in July. During his visit, Commissioner Miller learned more about Tarleton State's growing research portfolio, including Dr. Rajani Srinivasan's innovative work using plant-based materials to degrade microplastics.
He also received an overview of the ongoing efforts within RIED's centers and institutes, highlighting impactful research in rural entrepreneurship and agricultural biotechnology. It was a meaningful opportunity to showcase Tarleton State's contributions to the future of agriculture and sustainability.

Texas A&M Transportation Institute Visit |
|
|
|
The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) visited the RIED building to foster new connections and strengthen collaborative opportunities. TTI is at the forefront of developing innovative methods to advance sustainable transportation solutions and support cutting-edge research that helps propel the Texas A&M System's vision.
During their visit, TTI leaders met with faculty and staff to discuss potential pathways for researchers to engage in these groundbreaking projects. Their visit highlighted exciting possibilities for hands-on experience, research involvement, and future collaborative initiatives.

Dr. Iyer Presents Tarleton State's R1 Vision to the TAMUS Board of Regents |

Statewide Summit Co-hosted by Tarleton State’s Center for Rural Resilience |
|
|
Tarleton State University’s Center for Rural Resilience recently co-hosted the inaugural Rural Resilience Summit, bringing together leading experts from across The Texas A&M System and beyond. The two-day event brought together experts in education, agriculture, healthcare, emergency management and economic development to work collectively to address the challenges and opportunities facing Texas’ rural communities.

Build Your Business Workshop |
|
|
|
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship University Center held its latest Build Your Business workshop at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce in Dublin, Texas, on Oct. 23, 2025. Bill Leaverton, a Tarleton State faculty member from the Dr. Sam Pack College of Business and ex-SBDC regional director, kicked things off with the basics of a concise and impactful introduction. He then led an audience of 18 attendees through a 45-minute presentation on the essential elements for crafting compelling business plans. The floor was then turned over to a trio of Dublin small business panelists, Carmen Andersen, Donna Hightower and Pam Crabtree, to discuss their entrepreneurial journeys and field questions from the audience.

2-Day Grant Writing Workshop
|
|
|
In August, RIED hosted a 2-Day Grant Writing Workshop that welcomed approximately 51 faculty members from across Tarleton State. The workshop provided practical strategies and resources to help faculty strengthen and expand their research efforts. Designed with both STEM/Economics faculty and Humanities/Social Sciences disciplines in mind, the workshop offered guidance tailored to a wide range of scholarly needs and proposal types.

Fall RIED Research Academy
|
|
|
RIED recently hosted a Research Academy that welcomed approximately 42 attendees for a day of learning and collaboration. The Academy featured discussions on intellectual property, The Texas A&M System policy, and disclosure and approval requirements for researchers.
Participants also heard from a panel of research faculty experts and visited interactive stations offering practical insights, tools, and guidance to support their research endeavors. It was an engaging and informative event designed to help faculty navigate key aspects of the research process.

RIED Fort Worth Research Support Presentation
|
|
|
In November, RIED delivered a presentation at the Tarleton State Fort Worth campus, engaging approximately 24 attendees. Participants learned about the tools and resources available to support externally funded research, including strategies for identifying opportunities.
Attendees also had the chance to explore RIED's centers and institutes, opening the door for future collaboration on large-scale projects and multidisciplinary initiatives.

Curated Finding Funding Approach

|
|
RIED has launched a new Curated Finding Funding web tool on our webpage! This enhanced tool offers Tarleton State faculty and staff a more efficient and personalized approach to identifying competitive research funding opportunities. It will make it easier to explore targeted funding opportunities and programs that align with your research interests.

| Coming Soon: Cayuse IRB, IBC and IACUC Faculty Training
We will soon be launching training sessions to support faculty in submitting IRB, IBC and IACUC applications via the new Cayuse software platform. Stay tuned for more details!

IRB (Human Subjects) Highlight: Need assistance for submitting new projects, amendments, or continuing review/closure reports? Visit the webpage below.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee: The Office of Research Compliance is building study binders for each new project involving animals and will have the binders available for pickup by the PI. This process will ensure that the required study information and personnel trainings will be available during inspections.

Institutional Biosafety Committee: All permit requests are now submitted through Qualtrics, making it easier for investigators to submit projects for approval.

CITI Training: Tarleton State University uses the CITI Program for its research ethics and compliance training needs, fostering integrity and professional advancement of its learners. Register for courses required under your approved protocols and permits by clicking the CITI training link below.

Research Compliance Team Update

Dr. Veena Naik has joined the Office of Research Compliance as the Senior Research Compliance Administrator and Research Integrity Officer (RIO). She will support research integrity matters, ongoing investigations, and faculty/staff training.
Vamshi Appareddygudam continues to serve as Research Compliance Coordinator and Deputy RIO, supporting IRB, IACUC, IBC, and FCOI.
