Notable ActionsEviction Notification for Multi-Family Housing Programs The Department of Agriculture issued a final rule amending its regulations for the Multi-Family Housing Direct Loans and Grants Programs to require that borrowers provide tenants with written notification a minimum of 30 days prior to a lease termination or eviction action for nonpayment of rent. The notice must include instructions on how a tenant can avoid eviction and recertify household income. The 30-day notice requirement applies regardless of whether a presidentially declared national emergency exists. Effective April 24.
Omitting Food From In-Kind Support and Maintenance Calculations The Social Security Administration issued a final rule to remove food from the calculations of In-Kind Support and Maintenance (ISM) in its Supplemental Security Income (SSI) regulations. The SSI program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness and to adults aged 65 and older, and these ISM calculations inform eligibility for such benefits. Effective September 30.
Cybersecurity Labeling for Internet of Things The Federal Communications Commission issued a proposed rule that would create a voluntary cybersecurity labeling program for wireless consumer Internet of Things products. To qualify, manufacturers would be required to make certain cybersecurity disclosures related to their products. Comments due April 24.
Administering Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Laws The Department of Commerce is amending its regulations governing its enforcement and administration of the antidumping duty and countervailing duty laws. The revisions will address price and cost distortions and countervailable subsidies in different capacities. Effective April 24.
Advancing Women's Health Research and Innovation President Biden issued Executive Order 14120, which directs agencies to use their existing authorities to advance women's health in federal research, close research gaps, and make investments to help prevent, diagnose, and treat health conditions in women.
Unfair or Deceptive Fees The Federal Trade Commission announced an informal hearing related to a proposed rule that would prohibit unfair or deceptive practices relating to fees for goods or services. The informal hearing will be conducted virtually on April 24.
Rail Transit Roadway Worker Protection The Department of Transportation issued a proposal establishing minimum safety standards for rail transit roadway worker protection. The rule would apply to rail transit agencies covered by the State Safety Oversight (SSO) program, SSO agencies, and rail transit workers who access the roadway to perform work. Comments due May 24.
