Rescue K911 | A Refuge for the Homeless | K911 News | www.rescuek911.com
Hello all, Melissa here. I’m a volunteer for Rescue K911 and have been for a couple years now. But today isn’t about me, It’s about this guy. It is about Rescue K911 and Larry and Loraine and their hearts full of compassion, doing what they are were called to do. I too often see “time is almost up” posts for dogs on FB. They are in high kill shelters through no fault of their own, they are scared and they have no advocate. They are nothing but more a number, maybe a name. This guy’s picture came across mine and Loraine’s FB feed and it stuck in my brain. I couldn’t get his picture out of my head. I wanted to see him for myself, I wanted to see that no one could help him. I needed to know that he was beyond the point of being able to be helped. I know we can’t rescue all, but the “what if” couldn’t get out of my head. I've seen so many of those "what if" dogs come into Rescue K911, be transformed, healed and then get adopted into loving homes.
Chance
On behalf of Rescue K911 I showed up at Birmingham animal control when they opened their doors to see Tag #164588. The dog I saw was not feral, he was not people aggressive, he was terrified. I watched the cowering shakes relax after a few minutes. I watched him lick the wet food I brought him off his lips. I watched as the tech put a loose collar around his neck and he looked straight in your eyes. There was no aggression, there was fear. I can't blame him, it was loud and his kennel was small. I asked him if he wanted to be a country dog since his city life had not worked well for him so far.
As I sat there with him I got the chance to look into his eyes, pet him and even lift his jowls to check his teeth. The tech said he already was improving from when he came in a week ago. Today - March 8th, was his last day. His time was up, my heart ached for him, Loraine and I had been already talking back and forth about this boy. I knew she anxious to hear from me, to hear about #164588. I called Loraine and Larry ~ Rescue K911 put in an application to pull him within the hour.
Things we know about our boy ~ He was captured by a live trap in Bessemer, Alabama and then taken to an animal control. He obviously has some skin issues. Mange? Yeast? We aren’t sure quite yet.
That is really all we know about his past, but we can tell you he *NOW* has a future.
We need your help, once he arrives at Rescue K911 he will need time, patience, love, and medical care. As you can see he has a long way to go but I believe that if anyone can help this scared boy, Rescue K911 can. He now has a future.
He is safe.
Please consider donating to our new rescue, Chance!
Thank you,
Melissa
