April Is Pitch Month!
On April 23 and 28, we're bringing in editors to attend pitch sessions with students. Think of it like speed dating but for your pitches. You will verbally pitch editors and have a chance to answer questions (in a series of one-on-one meetings – 10 or so minutes each). And then the next day, you'll hear if the editor would like to receive a written pitch from you.
So far, editors from these publications have confirmed: amNY/Schneps, City Limits, Cosmopolitan, Grist, Guardian, HellGate, Salon, Slate, and The Nation. More to come.
In order to participate, you need to do two things:
1. Sign up
2. Attend a Pitch Collective to have your pitch vetted by me (Whitney) and/or my colleague, Marin Scotten. (I have been an editor at The New York Times and The Atlantic; Marin has written for The Guardian, The New Republic, etc.) Pitch Collectives are on Tuesdays at 330pm or Thursdays at 330pm in Room 600.
This is a great opportunity for you to have facetime with editors. It will be open to grad and undergrads. If you’re interested, sign up, and we’ll keep you posted about which editors will be attending.

The Cooper Square is the Institute's student-led news publication. We aim to produce and publish outstanding student journalism.
What are we looking for?
— We’re open to undergraduate and graduate student pitches.
— Yes, you will still have to pitch us.
— Pitch us stories that you’re proud of from your classes (and send us the drafts).
— Pitch us ideas that you haven’t written yet too, and we’ll work with you.
— We’re open to text, photos, photo essays, video, and audio.
— We also have a photo series called The Lens.
