At Puget Sound, we are committed to developing a sense of civic responsibility in our students. We believe it is vital for them to exercise their right to vote and know that their voices have a real impact on the world. We aim to equip our students with the skills to engage in thoughtful, critical discussions about our nation's governance and to participate actively in shaping its future. We hope to inspire informed and engaged citizens who contribute meaningfully to the democratic process and the betterment of society.
Encourage your student to check out these voting resources from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, where they can register to vote and learn about their state's voting process ahead of the November general election.

Pre-Law at Puget Sound: Helping Students Explore, Connect, and Decide
|
Have you ever told your student, “You like to argue. Maybe you should be a lawyer”? You’re not alone. Many students arrive at Puget Sound wondering whether law might be a good fit. Our Pre-Law Advising program helps them explore that question in thoughtful, practical, and student-centered ways.
Pre-Law advising at Puget Sound is highly individualized. We meet one-on-one with students to talk through their long-term goals and help them make informed decisions before committing to the significant investment (of both time and money) that law school represents.
We also help students see that they’re part of a broader community. Through events, workshops, and alumni connections, they meet peers who share their interests and hear directly from professionals in the field. A new student-led organization, Lawgers, provides a space for lively discussions on everything from law-related classes to the fast-changing worlds of constitutional and international law.
Puget Sound's size and location let us punch above our weight. Just last month, we hosted a roundtable for our pre-law students with two Washington State Supreme Court justices. And with our new Hybrid Hub partnership with Seattle University School of Law, our students will enjoy access to even more programming featuring law faculty and regional alumni, benefiting from the resources of a law school while still here on our beautiful campus.
If your student is even thinking about law school, encourage them to reach out to Pre-Law Advisor Chris Kendall. We’ll help them chart a clear, informed, and confident path forward.

Plan Ahead for Winter Break
|
Residential facilities will be closed from noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, through Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at 9 a.m. Students should plan to depart campus for Winter Break 24 hours after their last final exam or no later than noon on Dec. 20.

Students must tidy their rooms and clean up any personal belongings in lounges, bathrooms, kitchens, or laundry rooms. Windows should be locked and blinds closed.
- Unplug all electronics and take down any holiday decorations (string lights can stay up if they are left unplugged. Nothing should be hanging from ceilings or within 18 inches of the ceiling. Lights and fire alarms should not be covered.
- Take out all trash and recycling.
- If your student has a mini fridge, it should be cleaned out, unplugged, and left with the door propped open. Mini fridges can leak, so put a towel down to prevent water damage.
- Return any dishes to the Diner.
- Turn down individual and common room heaters.
- Remove any items needed over break. Residence halls will not be accessible.
-
Lock all doors and tape completed check-out sheet to the door.
|
Valuables left on campus are your student's responsibility. Please have your student take laptops and gaming equipment home. If they cannot take valuable items home, have them put these items in drawers or somewhere out of sight for safekeeping. Store bicycles inside or have your student take them home. Bikes left outside are subject to potential theft or damage from the elements. The university is not responsible for items left on campus over break. More information about leaving a vehicle on campus will be provided to students next month.
Students will not be able to return to their residence until Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. Your students' residence hall will hold community meetings near the end of the semester to go over the check-out process. Thank you for your help in securing the campus for a safe and restful break!
