What You Need to Know, When You Need to Know It
More Shots in the Arm: Vaccines Administered, Studied, Praised and Publicized
The numbers speak volumes. At our R&D Center Point of Distribution (POD) site we’ve administered:
● A total of about 120,000 vaccines
● An average of 2,500 vaccines a day, seven days a week, 12 hours a day
● 17,000 vaccines last week alone!
With vaccine eligibility and supply availability opening up dramatically across New York State, the R&D numbers above don’t even include the numerous POD opportunities Stony Brook Medicine has operated throughout Suffolk County.
What’s more, we were able to vaccinate more than 1,900 employees at a single-day event in the Stony Brook Union as well as 1,400 students at a separate dedicated event in the same location over the past two weeks.
And all of these numbers are literally growing by the minute.

New Travel Guidelines
A few important things to note:
- Asymptomatic travelers entering NYS from another U.S. state or territory are no longer required to test or quarantine.
- Symptomatic travelers must immediately self-isolate and should contact their healthcare providers and the Health Information Line (HIL) at (631) 632-5000 (option1).
- All international travelers will need to comply with current CDC requirements for testing and quarantine. That means testing three days before your flight to the U.S. Upon arrival in the U.S., international travelers must either quarantine for 7 days with a test 3-5 days after travel, or quarantine for the full 10 days without a test. Find travel guidance for Level 4 countries here.
- All travelers coming to NYS from areas beyond the border states (NJ, CT, PA, MA, VT) or internationally will need to complete the NYS Department of Health Traveler Health Form to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. For more information, visit New York State’s COVID-19 Travel Advisory website.
- And, finally, please know that employees designated as Essential who travel internationally are not exempt from quarantine requirements and must follow the same travel advisory requirements.

Mark Your Calendar: Giving Day is April 21
Every year students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, patients and friends raise money to support our University’s mission and goals. With our Third Annual Giving Day happening on April 21, there’s no more important time, and no more critical year, to generate funds to keep us coming back safe and strong in the wake of unprecedented, pandemic-related challenges, financial and otherwise.
- Wash your hands or use sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available.
- Maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from other people.
- Wear a mask at all times, including in classrooms, conference rooms and other spaces, even when six feet social distancing exists.
- Cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in your workplace every day.
- Avoid using other people's phones, desks, offices, tools and equipment.
- Sanitize shared items after use.
- Stay home if you’re sick.
- Avoid large gatherings.
