Dear Future Doctors,
The Office of Pre-Professional Mentoring and Advising (OPMA) prehealth advising team is excited to welcome you back for the 2026–2027 academic year! We hope that you had a great summer and are ready for a successful year, both inside and outside the classroom. We have a lot of exciting programming planned for prehealth students this year and look forward to connecting with you through our workshops, seminars, and appointments. Here is an overview of our services:
Prehealth advisors provide application mentoring for current students and alumni across all majors at The Capstone. Drawing on our knowledge of best practices in the 8+ prehealth tracks that we serve, we partner with students to help develop a professional school portfolio that reflects professionalism, clinical experience, and a passion for serving others.
Our prehealth program is opt-in, so if you're a new or current student, a few good steps are visiting our prehealth website, subscribing to our monthly newsletter, and requesting to add your preferred prehealth track. Our monthly newsletter is our primary method of communication with students and is where we share community or campus opportunities for prehealth students.
We look forward to a fantastic year working with prehealth students, helping you to develop the competencies and skills to be tomorrow's healthcare leaders and workforce.

Primarily advises students who are actively preparing to apply (juniors and seniors). Serves as prehealth advisor to juniors and seniors in the McCollough minor. Specializes in pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-optometry, and pre-pharmacy tracks.

Please note that our drop-in days and times have changed this year to Monday mornings, Tuesday mornings, and Wednesday mornings and afternoons. Please see the schedule below:

Ready to make an advising appointment to discuss your prehealth plans? Visit the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences scheduling page to check availability and schedule an appointment for prehealth advisors. After selecting "Make an Appointment," you'll find pre-health advisors in the upper left-hand corner of the screen under the "My Advising" tab.
Appointments open on a rolling two-week window, so today's view will only show slots through the next two weeks. 15- and 20-minute appointment slots are added regularly, so check back often. Come prepared with questions and a plan for success. Bring a personal device if you can.

Need to add a course for the Fall 2026 semester? Check out these great elective offerings from other colleges on Campus. Some carry a core designation that fulfills a General Education requirement.
The College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) offers in-person and online sections of:
POPH 422: Biostatistics
POPH 423: Basic Epidemiology
CCHS also offers an in-person section of CHS 225: Introduction to Health Professions.
The College of Communication & Information Sciences (C&IS) also offers the following electives that will build essential knowledge and skills in prehealth competencies. They include:
COM 101: Principles of Human Communication (Social and Behavioral Science Core Designation)
COM 220: Interpersonal Communication (Social and Behavioral Science Core Designation)
COM 250: Nonverbal Communication
COM 123: Public Speaking (Humanities Core Designation)
COM 350: Organizational Communication
COM 465: US/Global Citizenship and Writing Designation
