Welcome to the 2026-2027 BYM Program Year! |
The BYM "program year" begins and ends with Annual Session, and the 2026-2027 BYM program year has officially begun! Staff are back in the office from their week of rest, and BYM Committees are starting their work. The BYM Calendar of Key Dates has all the topline dates for the year ahead, and the online Events Calendar is updated regularly with both Monthly Meeting and BYM events. Need to know who serves on or clerks a BYM Committee? Check out the annual Committee Roster, also published in both the Committee Handbook and forthcoming 2026 Yearbook. The Deadline for the fall Interchange, BYM's quarterly print newsletter, is September 1st. So far we have received 0 submissions of community news! We are eager to publish updates about the life of your Monthly Meeting or Worship Group. Updates and/or photographs can be send to admin@bym-rsf.org.

| Committee Orientation for New Program Year, Sep 1 |
All BYM committee members are invited to a Committee Orientation on Tue, Sept 1 at 7:00pm. This orientation will cover key information for working together, including the calendar for the upcoming year, systems for requesting and spending money as a Committee, and processes and deadlines for bringing business items before the Yearly Meeting. The orientation will take place via Zoom and a recording will be circulated.

BYM Grants Over $300,000 in Camp Scholarships |
The Camping Program Committee is excited to share enrollment and scholarship numbers from the 2026 camping season. This year 534 campers spent part of their summer at one of the four BYM Quaker Camps: Catoctin, Opequon, Shiloh, or Teen Adventure. Of those 534 campers, more than 200, 38%, received scholarships ranging from $100 to $3000+. In total, $305,000 in scholarships were granted. The camp program is the largest program of the Yearly Meeting, and all involved in camp want to express our gratitude to the Yearly Meeting for all its support of this life- affirming program. Thanks to the generosity of many F/friends they will never meet, hundreds of children were able to experience the magic of BYM Quaker Camps!

"Middle-Third" Happy Hour, Sept 15 @ Takoma Park |
An informal group of DC-area Quakers from several monthly meetings invites Friends in the middle years of their lives (Gen X and Millennials) to an informal happy hour on Sept 15, 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the Takoma Bev Co in Takoma Park, MD. We're not Young Adult Friends, but we're not signing up for the Quaker retirement community just yet! The location is accessible via the Metro Red Line and there is a paid parking lot behind the BevCo. Email GenSec@bym-rsf.org for questions.

Menallen Friends Meeting Seek Support for New Roof |
The Menallen Friends Meetinghouse in Biglerville, PA has been continuously in use since 1884. The building has recently required several maintenance/restoration projects, including stabilization of a historic buggy shed, and there is one large remaining project: the main roof of the building needs to be replaced. We have spent down our capital funds, but the roofer who repaired the porch roof has advised us that the main roof needs to be done soon. If you feel moved to help with the cost of roof replacement, a contribution in any amount would be appreciated. Friends United Meeting Fall Book Groups |
This Fall, FUM’s North American ministries program is offering two book discussion groups, one on the book, How (Not) to Speak of God, by Peter Rollins; and the other on The Contemplative Pastor, by Eugene Peterson. How (Not) to Speak of God is an invitation to a deeper faith and understanding of God - sign up for the book group here. Friends Peace Teams Seeks Volunteers |
Friends Peace Teams is seeking volunteers for the global Communications Team. We meet monthly online to support Friends around the world doing amazing justice and peace work. Meetings are held 3rd Tuesdays at 9:00am ET US; times are adjusted to meet the needs of volunteers from different time zones. Help is needed in a variety of single or on-going ways, including: editing and proofreading; tech assistance; liaising with each Region's monthly online meetings; editing PeaceWays, research, and more! War & Militarism Working Group Offers Resources to Meetings |
The BYM Working Group on War and Militarism is excited to visit Monthly Meetings and Quaker schools in our yearly meeting region this upcoming year to learn and to share more about what Friends can and are doing to reduce the risks of nuclear war. Anyone who is interested in these ongoing peacebuilding efforts is invited to attend one of the Working Group meetings or to otherwise reach out to the Working Group (contact information below). The BYM Working Group on War & Militarism meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 8PM, via Zoom. Thank you to the many Friends who have already been active on this concern!
