BYM Women's Retreat, Oct 21st
|

|
Registration is now open for the Quaker Women's Retreat, a daytime retreat on Saturday, October 21 at Friends Community School in College Park, Maryland. "Hope for an Inclusive Future" is the theme of this year's retreat. Please join us for chant, workshops, a nature walk, and wonderful fellowship. The retreat is hosted by Adelphi Friends Meeting. The Quaker Women's Retreat is also seeking local hosts who can provide overnight lodging for our out-of-town retreat attendees. Are you in or around College Park, Maryland? World Quaker Day is this Sunday, Oct 1st
|
World Quaker Day – 1 October 2023 – is almost here. Friends everywhere will learn, pray and act, as we prepare to come together as a global family of Friends at the World Plenary Meeting in South Africa and online next year. The theme for both World Quaker Day and the World Plenary Meeting is Living the Spirit of Ubuntu: Responding with Hope to God’s Call to Cherish Creation and one-another. | Celebrate 200 Years of Penn Hill Meeting House!
|
Welcome Friends and neighbors to the 200th anniversary open house of Lancaster county's historic Penn Hill Friends Meeting House on Saturday, Oct 7th from 10am - 2pm. Penn Hill Friends hhave annouced that William Penn will speak and answer questions about Pennsylvania and Quaker history for adults and children. In addition, the open house will feature Amish leather craftsman, and Barry Lee (Muncee) will demonstrate how the indigenous people of Pennsylvania made and used Wampun belts. The historic Penn Hill Meeting House is a treasure of our Yearly Meeting - featuring a traditional divided space, pulley partitions, an antique cast-iron wood-burning stove, and a wonderful historic burial ground.

United Palestinian Appeal at Sandy Spring Meeting, Oct 15
|
On Sunday, October 15 at 1:15pm at Sandy Spring Friends Meeting, Saleem Zaru, Executive Director of United Palestinian Appeal (UPA), will address the challenges faced by communities in Palestine and the diaspora, and discuss approaches UPA has developed over its 45 years of service to deal with these challenges.

| Young Friends to Gather at Patuxent Meeting This Weekend
|
Young Friends, BYM's youth program for high school students, will be gathering this weekend for their Fall Conference (aka "September Con") at Patuxent Friends Meeting. Thank you to Patuxent Friends - and the many Meetings who open their door to host these weekend lock-in retreats. Please hold our Young Friends in the Light this weekend. The full schedule is now available for BYM's 2023-2024 Young Friends (high school) and Junior Young Friends (middle school) conferences. Newcomers are warmly welcome at our Youth Cons, as are adults who wish to sign up and train to be a chaperone (aka "FAM" - Friendly Adult Mentors).
