Be on guard against scams
Common scams involve fraudulent phone calls from perpetrators pretending to be representatives from U.S. government agencies such as ICE or the IRS. Calls are usually “masked” so that they appear to be coming from legitimate government office phone numbers. Scammers typically threaten deportation and attempt to solicit money.

Please be aware that no government agency will ever call and demand money or conduct business in this fashion. You should never comply with such requests, and never provide personal information, such as social security number, bank account number or credit card number to anyone you don't know. If you receive such a call, you should hang up immediately. Refusing to give information or send money over the phone will never cause you to lose your legal status in the United States.

If you believe you have been a victim of such a scam, please file a police report immediately and contact ISSS if you have questions. We also recommend reviewing this information from DHS about avoiding scams and how to report a call from a scammer.
