"MAPS Eco" Explorers

Become a MAPS "Eco Explorer" After School Mentor at Alder Elementary!

**(SYC Series)**

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, November 3 @ 11:59pm

When: Every Wednesday from 2:00pm-4:45pm (Winter-Spring term)

Location: Alder Elementary School in East Portland (17200 SE Alder St.)

Optional carpool will leave PSU each week at 1:15pm and return by 5:30pm.

What: Inspire curiosity and confidence through hands-on learning! Mentors will be paired with small groups of students within the after school club and work in both larger and smaller group settings to help kids develop science, math, and social-emotional skills through hands-on activities both in and outside of the garden.

SCEC SYC Shorts + Series

Be an Urban Farmer with Kindness Farm!

**(SYC Short)**

When: Thursday, October 23rd, 8:30am - 12:30pm

Location: Kindness Farm's: 7101 SE 127th Ave, Portland, OR

We will meet in the lobby of SMSU and carpool together to the farm! If you would like to ride separately, please indicate so when registering.

What: Ready to dig in and make a difference? For this project, volunteers will be doing a variety of activities, all of which are needed to grow organic food in a farm setting. Typically, these will include: weeding, spreading compost/woodchips, composting, digging, planting, watering, transplanting, harvesting, and pruning to help maintain the farm's infrastructure.

**Community Warehouse Donations Sorting Pop Up Project (SYC Short)

When:** Saturday, November 8th,

1:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Community Wearhouse:

464 NE 219th Ave, 97030

What: Help turn donations into meaningful impact for local families! For this project, we will be helping with ongoing projects such as linen donation sorting, silverware bundling, furniture building, and more! Please dress in close-toed shoes, long pants (leggings are ok), and wear shoes you are able to stand in.

**Serve a Weekly Lunchtime Meal at Blanchet House this Fall Term (SYC Series)**

This event is full but still join the wait list! We cant wait to meet you soon!

When: Saturday, October 18th- Saturday, November 22nd,11:00am - 1:00pm- 6 shifts total

Location: Blanchet House: 310 NW Glisan St, Portland, OR 97209

Volunteers will have the option to meet together at the PSU campus around 10:30am (or 10am on day 1) to take the MAX together from campus for weekly shifts.

What: Step into the kitchen and be part of something bigger! When you volunteer at Blanchet House you will help prepare, plate, and serve meals and drinks in addition to other tasks related to the meal service. Volunteers arrive half an hour before the meal begins to get oriented to Blanchet House and be assigned tasks.
