Submit Nominations for Coach, Student, and Admin Awards
|
|
|
High School (District to National) » Each winner of the following district awards is automatically entered into the running for the national-level award when reported by your district chair. This is a special way to recognize excellence, offer a boost to new or rarely celebrated members, and uplift the members of your community who make speech and debate great.
District deadlines vary, so be sure to check with your local leadership about when nominations are due. District chairs must report district winners to us by April 16 for national award consideration!
Middle School (National) » Recognize a coach who champions speech and debate! Nominations for the Middle School Coach of the Year Award are due May 1. These nominations are evaluated by the national office to choose the winner.

Earning NSDA Points for Scrimmages
|
Remember, students may earn up to 75 merit points for intrasquad and intersquad competitions that do not have the usual required four schools participating. Coaches will enter these points manually and list the Tournament/Service name as Scrimmage. This is a great way for geographically isolated schools or students with weekend conflicts to earn more points!

Help Students Overcome Public Speaking Anxiety
|
If you have students in class or on your team who are experiencing high levels of anxiety over public speaking, help them adjust with progressive delivery tips from Start Here: Teaching Public Speaking.
-
Students begin by delivering one fact about themselves to the board, facing away from the class. You can also try dimming or turning off the lights!
- They deliver a tongue twister to the board as many times as they can in 15-30 seconds.
-
They practice delivering a poem from a script to the wall, then to a partner, then in a group, then to the class.
