Longwood Reimagined Update
|
This week we put the finishing touches on our new Bonsai Courtyard. This living gallery space of more than 12,000 square feet is where meticulous artistry meets the beauty of nature—and we showcase our nationally recognized collection of bonsai. You will enjoy a rotating display of up to 60 specimens at any one time, varying by season, featuring tropical, deciduous, conifer, American, and Japanese specimens from our collection. The Courtyard also features selections of great rarity and beauty both on loan and donated by The Kennett Collection—the finest and largest private collection of bonsai and bonsai-related objects outside of Asia. Influenced by the tradition of Japanese gardens, the Courtyard includes wooden benches for reflection, a minimalist backdrop of crushed stone, charred wood, and a muted color palette. Permanent horticultural elements—from Carpinus hedge to cherry trees and ferns—softly harmonize with the beauty of the bonsai poised on pedestals for viewing. We can’t wait for you to experience the beauty and artistry of our bonsai and to experience all of Longwood Reimagined.
