Five Notre Dame faculty elected AAAS Fellows as program celebrates 150th anniversary

Nitesh Chawla, founding director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society and Frank M. Freimann Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, is among five Notre Dame faculty who have been elected as American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) fellows.
The AAAS, one of the largest general scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of journals, reserves this distinction for those who demonstrate expertise and accomplishment in the fields of biological sciences, chemistry, medical sciences, engineering, neuroscience and physics.

| Postdoctoral Fellowship in Responsible AI for Education

The Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society and Notre Dame Learning at the University of Notre Dame are partnering to seek candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in responsible AI for education.
Responsibilities will include developing resources to help faculty and students adapt to teaching and learning in the age of AI tools, designing AI-enhanced pedagogical strategies, and contributing to the ethical use guidelines for AI in education.

In this short talk, Ahmed Abbasi, Joe and Jane Giovanini Professor of IT, Analytics, and Operations, will describe his 20-year journey from machine learning towards human-centered AI.
Professor Abbasi will conclude by discussing ongoing research in the Human-centered Analytics Lab that is pondering important policy questions like, "Is responsible AI impossible AI?"
