We hope you are enjoying the warmer weather this Spring! We are excited to share information about approaching scholarship deadlines, as well as an upcoming information session. April is a good time to begin planning for funding your education in the upcoming year. Please take a look at the information below to assess your funding situation and plan accordingly.

Understand your Current Funding |
If you receive an award from GW or from another entity it's important that you review your award letter to ensure you follow the award's requirements. In particular, you will want to confirm if your award is renewable for multiple years or non-renewable.
If you have questions about your award, please contact the awarding department. A specific contact person should be listed in the body of the award letter.

Professional Organizations |
Many academic disciplines and career fields have professional organizations that provide funding to graduate students in their field. Check out our website and take a look at our ever-growing list of professional organizations.

Google PhD Fellowship Program |
First Round Deadline: April 13, 2026
Finalists Deadline: April 29th, 2026
The Google PhD Fellowship Program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields. Fellowships support promising PhD candidates of all backgrounds who seek to influence the future of technology. Google PhD Fellowships directly support graduate students as they pursue their PhD, as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor.
GW will select up to four candidates to the national committee for consideration. First round application materials are due 4/13/26. If you are selected in the first round review, you must complete all the remaining finalists application materials by 4/29/26.
Award Type:

- Up to 2 years Fellowship
-
US $85K per year towards education costs (tuition and fees), living expenses, travel, and personal equipment (effective from 2025 for new recipients)
|
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
|
- Students must remain enrolled full-time in the PhD program for the duration of the Fellowship.
- Students must have completed graduate coursework in their PhD by the academic award year when the Fellowship begins.
- Students must be studying a Google research area of focus (listed here)
|
First Round Review Required Application Materials

One-page description of research being completed by PhD student, including the category the research fits into (from list above)
- Candidate’s current curriculum vitae or resume

Finalists Required Application Materials
Due April 29th

Cover sheet signed by the Department Chair confirming the student passes eligibility requirements. (See above)
- Short (1-page) CV of the student's primary advisor
- 2-3 letters of recommendation from those familiar with the nominee's work (at least one from the thesis advisor)
- Transcripts of current and previous academic records
- Student CV with links to website and publications (if available)
- Research/dissertation proposal (maximum 3 pages, excluding references)
- Two Student Essays

Since 1985, the Bryce Harlow Foundation has awarded fellowships to highly motivated students in pursuit of a career in professional advocacy through government relations, advocacy or lobbying.

Award Type: $9,000 Tuition Award and Mentoring Program
Open to: Current and prospective GW graduate students interested in government relations, advocacy or lobbying. US Citizens only.
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
1. Students must plan to be enrolled in part-time graduate studies for credit at GW for the next academic year.
2. Students must be employed full-time throughout the Fellowship year. Temporary work, part-time work, and internships do not qualify.

Scottish Rite Endowment Graduate Fellowships: Second Round of Competition |
We are pleased to announce a second round of competition for the Scottish Rite endowment graduate fellowships for Academic Year 2026-27! If you already applied in the first round of competition (applications were due in February), you are not eligible to apply again. If you have questions, please email us at gradfell@gwu.edu!

Award Details:

- Full-Time Study Awards: Up to twelve credits per Academic Year (six in Fall and six in Spring), requires a minimum of nine credits registration per semester.
- Part-Time Study Awards: Up to six credits per Academic Year (three in fall and three in spring), requires a minimum registration of six credits per semester.

Eligibility Requirements:
|
- Must be a US Citizen
- Incoming or current students on the Foggy Bottom campus in one of the following graduate schools:

Elliott School of International Affairs, the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Professional Studies, or the Milken Institute School of Public Health

Verified affiliation with a US Scottish Rite organization with eligibility confirmation. Eligibility is confirmed by the Scottish Rite if either the applicant's great grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle, or self is or has been a 32 degree Scottish Rite member. Membership must be in the United States Scottish Rite and the member must be in good standing. No exceptions.

Academic excellence as demonstrated by undergraduate transcripts (and graduate transcripts, if applicable).
- Intending full-time study (a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester or 18 credit hours per academic year) or part-time study (a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester or 12 credit hours per academic year) in a master's or doctoral degree program on the Foggy Bottom campus.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Information Session |
|
|
We are pleased to share this opportunity to learn more about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program with you! Please note that graduate students are welcome and encouraged to attend this event.
Date and time: Wednesday, April 8, 2026 2 – 3pm
Location: Virtual (Registration is required and will be open until a few hours before the session.)
|
At this event, IIE (Institute of International Education) Fulbright Staff and Alumni Ambassadors will present general information about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program’s history, eligibility, award types, award benefits, application components, and tips.
After the general presentation, student participants will be sorted into breakout rooms by institutions where Dr. Jacob A. English, director of the Center for Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, will cover institution-specific details, such as campus resources, deadlines, and next steps. This event is for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni.

Applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of the application deadline. Permanent residents are not eligible. Please review the specific Award Description in relation to the eligibility of dual citizens.
