Huddling at Oyster Point
Logistic's Oyster Point warehouse is larger than two football fields, yet it feels friendly and inviting. Alex is part of a team of about 50 staff (plus a crew of delivery drivers) that provide core services to UCSF, including mail delivery, moves and installations, freezer specimen storage and medical gas sales (learn more below). They began using a lean tool called Active Daily Engagement (ADE) this past February to help facilitate peer-to-peer sharing, problem-solving and aligning goals and priorities to our purpose. Alex was the first manager to put up a visibility board ("vis board" or huddle board, pictured above) and establish weekly "huddle" meetings with his team. Now there are four active vis boards and two more soon to be implemented. The supervisors of each area set up the system, but the employees run the weekly huddle meetings. Staff are happy with the results so far, exchanging stories of how ADE helped them share information more freely, have more fun and open up more.
