We thought the last time we sent out a newsletter, we were at the end of all the change. We shared about staffing changes, leader transitions, a new marriage, you name it. The changes felt BIG. However, I don't think any of those compare to what we are facing now during this season. Little did we know that in the spring of 2020, things were going to change even more...
We kicked off this COVID-19 season by postponing our "Party With A Purpose" fundraising event. It was devastating to make that hard decision, but we trusted the Lord, and knew it was the right choice. Next, clubs all around the nation were asked to stop meeting, leaders were told not to meet with kids face-to-face anymore, area staff were no longer able to work in their offices together and then camps were shut down for the summer. These new changes felt REALLY BIG, and REALLY HARD.
So what does Young Life even look like when we aren't allowed to meet in person? Well, it looks like team leaders meeting weekly on Facetime calls to check in with staff and share what God is teaching them. It looks like campaigner groups having weekly Zoom calls with leaders. It looks like monthly leader feeders and committee meetings happen on Zoom. It looks like Dominos pizza donating over 1,500 pizzas all across the region so we can feed kids each month. It looks like staff slowing down and pausing for a moment to ask God what is next. It looks like new innovative ways to do ministry sprouting up each day.
Young life is still happening. Kids are still hearing the gospel and talking regularly with their leaders. In GHT, we know that we will rise from this stronger than when we started. We are excited for the changes ahead and ready to weather them together. Thank you for supporting us throughout this time, for your continued prayers, and your generosity. We wouldn't be this strong, if we didn't have a tremendous support system.
