Friday, August 30, 2019 | Fall Semester 2019

After your first week of classes, you may be feeling excited and a bit overwhelmed. It can be challenging to learn how to navigate all of the resources available at a large university like Miami. Good news: ISSS will be offering two upcoming events to help familiarize you with the advising and support resources that are available to you!

Meet Your Advisor: On Thursday, September 5 (12-1pm in the MacMillan lobby), academic advisors, career advisors, and our very own ISSS advisors will be available to mingle and answer questions.

Meet Your Support System: On Thursday, September 12 (12-1pm in the MacMillan lobby), staff from a variety of offices including Health and Counseling, Rinella, Student Success, Writing Center, and more will be available to mingle and answer questions.

All are welcome, though these events will be particularly beneficial to students who are new to Miami or who want to know more about the role various offices and advisors play in helping students achieve their goals.

Immigration Tip
Updating Your Address
International students are required by law to update their address within 10 days of moving. If you live on campus, your residence hall address is automaticalls updated for you by the university.

If you live off-campus, update your local address through th the Contact Information  site in MyMiami. There are many address types available; please update your local (LO) address type. Be careful with formatting. All addresses must be validated by the government system. Review these tips to ensure you format your address correctly:
  • Do not write your apartment complex name; provide your street address. Do not write that you live at "Level 27," "Hawk's Landing," or "The Preserve" - the government will not recognize those names
  • Include your apartment number; only providing your apartment complex's street address is not sufficient
  • Order your address correctly and start with the street address. Here is an example of a correctly ordered address:
Street Address: 123 E. High St., Apt 101
    City: Oxford
    State: Ohio
    County: Butler
    Zip or Postal Code: 45056
    Country: United States
Ask an Advisor
Question: How can I check the record of my entry into the United States?
Ask an Advisor: Check I-94 Record
