Pride Staff Spotlight
Meet Assistant Director of Career Development, Caroline Toole
Where is your hometown?
I’m a Navy brat. This August I will have been in Los Angeles for seven years, and that’s the longest I’ve ever lived in one place.
What do you enjoy most about working at LLS CDO?
I enjoy the challenge of adapting to changes in the legal hiring market and legal technologies. We’re constantly having to consider how to best serve the needs of our students in a rapidly evolving environment.
What was your life like before coming to LLS?
As a litigator, my whole month or year could change with a single judge’s scheduling order. I loved that in product liability defense I got to dive into the intersection between legal theories and scientific facts, but I’ve enjoyed stepping away from the adversarial aspects.
What's the best career advice you ever received?
Networking is about long-term relationship management, rather than attending one-off events. And if you work for a large employer, you need to be networking with your coworkers, not just outside your firm.
What advice would give a 3L who is approaching their job search?
There are a lot of different paths to the career you want. Every decision feels so high stakes in your last year of law school, but none of your career choices are pass/fail; down the road, you’ll be able to reevaluate and chart a new course if you need to.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Host board game nights, bemoan the ACFC’s current record, and wrangle two small dogs.
What's your favorite cuisine?
Indian! So varied, so tasty, and so friendly to my wife’s gluten allergy.
