New Discovery Vanderbilt center applies advanced technology to biological research
The Center for Computational and Systems Biology, led by Ken Lau (Cell and Developmental Biology), will leverage technology for new ways to tackle human diseases and conditions. The center also completed its first faculty hire, Tae Hyun Hwang, a national leader in cancer diagnosis and treatment, jointly with the Section of Surgical Sciences at VUMC.

Shan Meltzer receives 2025 C.J. Herrick Award in Neuroanatomy
Shan Meltzer (Pharmacology) was awarded the 2025 C.J. Herrick Award in Neuroanatomy from the American Association for Anatomy. The award recognizes investigators in the early stages of their careers who have made important contributions to biomedical science through their research in comparative neuroanatomy.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Vanderbilt collaborate on opioid crisis, cannabis education
TBI Director David Rausch and senior officials recently visited the Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery to learn more about how cutting-edge research is combatting the opioid crisis. The meeting focused on how the center’s innovative work in drug discovery and addiction neuroscience could support the TBI’s efforts to reduce opioid misuse and improve public safety across the state.

Vanderbilt basic science alum Q&A: Ashley Brady
Meet Ashley Brady, PhD’03, who graduated from the pharmacology department and is now the assistant dean of biomedical career engagement and strategic partnerships in the Office of Biomedical Research Education and Training and an associate professor of medical education and administration. We sat down with Brady to discuss her experiences studying basic science and how it played a role in her successful career.
