Message from the DirectorIncredibly we have already reached the halfway point in the year. Our professional team at Sydney Nano is now back to full strength with a number of recent recruits, who I will introduce in our next newsletter. In addition, we welcome our new Student Ambassadors, congratulations on the award of their scholarships. We are now seeking Members who have an interest to become International Ambassadors to enhance our exciting Academic Partnerships program. I am very pleased to announce the endorsement of our inaugural ECR Development Nodes; Nano-Fab and Nano DeLiver who are seeking collaborations with other ECRs from various disciplines, please do join if you are interested. A number of Sydney Nano ECR Awards are currently open for EoI from ECRs and PhD students. We have a ‘Meet the Author’ event on Tuesday 6 July with Dr Hansheng Chen - Bridging microstructure and magnetic properties of rare-earth permanent magnets. Finally, our congratulations to Prof Hala Zreiqat and Prof Antonio Tricoli, both awarded Fulbright Future Scholarships in 2021. Stay safe and I look forward to joining everyone back on campus soon.

Inaugural Sydney Nano ECR Development Nodes seeking collaborators
ECR Development Nodes aim to provide Early Career Researchers with the opportunity to build and lead a multi-disciplinary research teams to gain practical experience in leadership and academic skills with mentorship from senior colleagues. NanoFab, led by Dr Anusha Withana and NanoDeLiver, led by Dr Nicholas Hunt are seeking ECRs from various disciplines.
| |
1. Nano-Fab Nature Inspired Nanofabrication for Sustainability The node aims to draw inspiration from nature to develop bio-mimicking and bio-integrated smart devices, materials and spaces using additive manufacturing or fabrication methods on the nanoscale. ECRs with expertise in Sustainable Design, Social Sciences / Social Acceptance, MedTec, Arts/Aesthetics and Psychology are encouraged to contact Anusha Withana.
| |
2. Nano-DeLiver Delivering genes and nanoparticles to cure liver disease The node will develop transformational quantum dot-based nanotechnologies for targeted delivery of gene therapy (CRISPR/Cas9), proteins and therapeutics to the liver. ECRs from Engineering, Medicine & Health, Chemistry, Ethics and Business with interest in drug delivery, gene therapy, therapeutics for metabolic disease, organ-on-a-chip models are encouraged to contact Nick Hunt.
