Dear Volunteers,
Happy Winter Solstice! Thank you for all that you do to make the Gardens shine brighter each day. The time that you spend stewarding the Gardens and connecting with our visitors is instrumental to helping us enact our mission to connect people to plants, the planet, and each other. I hope you will find some exciting opportunities to join us as we welcome the new year and prepare for Magnificent Magnolias. Read on to learn more!

Interpretation Station Training |
Magnificent Magnolias Interpretation Station Training Tuesday, January 21, 10am-12pm
Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture
As we prepare for Magnficent Magnolias, we are excited to extend this training opportunity to volunteers eager to learn how to lead an interpretation station in the Botanical Garden! This opportunity is ideal for volunteers interested in making a regular commitment to facilitate our outdoor interpretive station focused on Magnolias between mid-January through March. Having experience volunteering in different parts of the Gardens can help build the foundation for success so we recommend that volunteers have completed at least four assignments in some area of the Gardens such as Green Teams, Plant Shop, Library, or Bookstore prior to the training.

Program Assistant Ethan Rappeport and SFSU Fellows Cavyn, Maria, Ramon, and Peggy all joined Recreation and Park's annual Season of Sparkle event this month. The team set up a Family Fun table, making paper butterflies and doing leaf rubbings.
In addition, the Gardens celebrated the holidays with two sold out Wreath Making programs last weekend and despite the tornado warning and heavy rain and winds on Saturday morning, more than 800 people visited the Gifts at the Garden holiday market in the County Fair Building. With sunnier skies on Sunday, we welcomed 1,200 shoppers. Thank you so much to everyone who made this event a success!
The Storybook Stroll launched its third book this month, Patterns, Patterns Everywhere by Kellie Menendez. Visit the Children’s Garden soon to walk the Storybook Stroll and read the new book!
