As part of a cooperative agreement to develop and implement USDA Food and Nutrition Service’s (FNS) Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative, Action for Healthy Kids is offering competitive grants (up to $150,000 per SFA) for small and/or rural SFAs to support efforts to improve the nutritional quality of their school meals.
Now Available! New Food Yields Added to the Food Buying Guide
New yields are now available in the Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs Interactive Web-based (FBG) Tool and FBG Mobile App! New yield data is available for these highly requested foods: apple bananas, chokecherries, taro, and fresh apples. Stay tuned for additional yield data releases coming soon.

The program year for NSLP is now set to default to PY24 in TX-UPNS. Please take note of the program year in which you are updating the application packet to ensure that the correct program year is being updated.

Are you a Small and/or Rural School Food Authority (SFA) and participate in NSLP and/or SBP? The USDA Healthy Meals Incentives (HMI) Initiative and Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is working together to support small and/or rural SFA efforts (up to $150,000 per SFA) to improve the nutritional quality of their school meals and meet the HMI Recognition Awards criteria. The U. S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) encourage the public to attend the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s second meeting livestreamed on May 10, 2023. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is updated every 5 years and provides direction for the nutrition regulations and nutrient standards of the National School Lunch Program. If you would like to track the progress of the committee in the Dietary Guidelines development process, register to attend the virtual committee meetings and/or submit public comments.
