Dear Andover boarding students, (copy to families)
We hope you and your loved ones are taking care and staying well.
To our new students in the Classes of 2021 and 2024, we are eager to WELCOME you to campus in a month! To our returning students in the Class of 2021, we are excited to greet you on campus for the start of your senior year! In addition, we are thrilled to be able to invite our prefects to campus at the start of the year!
The year ahead will bring new challenges, responsibilities, and opportunities. As we strive to make Andover a safe, supportive, and inclusive community, we will look to our seniors to model our community values with courage, conviction, and integrity. In the days ahead, we will send all of our community members our Non Sibi Safety Pledge and ask that every student agree to abide by the outlined expectations in order to return and remain on campus.
As we place the health and safety of our entire community at the center of our planning, we need your help designing and executing a registration process that is safe, efficient, and organized. We understand that many of you need to arrange travel logistics as soon as possible. Students, please complete the survey to sign up for a registration window; you will receive the Qualtrics registration link in your inbox momentarily. It is imperative that you honor the order, timing, and guidelines of this process so that we can safely manage the flow of community members and visitors to campus as students are arriving and moving into their residential spaces.
ORDER:
The Rebecca M. Sykes Wellness Center: Upon arrival, your first stop will be at the health tent in front of the Rebecca M. Sykes Wellness Center. You will need to present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test within 7 days prior to arrival, or take a rapid COVID-19 test and receive a negative result, in order to continue through the registration process. The Sykes team will also ensure that your medical files are complete and up to date. Please expect a significant wait if you have an incomplete health record or require a COVID-19 test on campus.
The Registration Tent: You will then proceed to the registration tent to make sure that you have completed necessary paperwork, check in on your orientation process, and receive your Blue Card and room key.
Your dormitory: You will then head directly to your dormitory where you and one other person will have a two hour window to unload and unpack your belongings. Please expect to receive your residential assignment in the final weeks of August.
TIMING:
Please sign up for a 15 minute slot at Sykes between the hours of 9am-3pm. This will begin your registration process and allow us to limit the number of students arriving to campus each day. Registration days are listed below.
Thursday, September 10: Invited Student Leaders ONLY Friday, September 11: 9th and 12th grade boarding students Saturday, September 12: 9th and 12th grade boarding students Sunday, September 13: Reserved for 12th graders who are taking the ACTs off campus on September 12.
Please move through the registration tent efficiently and honor all face covering, hand sanitizing, and distancing expectations.
Please honor a two hour time limit for unloading and unpacking your belongings in the dormitory. For returning students, we understand that this window is shorter than many of you have experienced in the past. Because we are asking you to bring far fewer belongings this year (more details to come in a later mailing), we expect that you will have plenty of time to unpack. NOTE: Andover will provide all boarding students with a small refrigerator, a fan, and E&R laundry service. Bed linens and towels will be included with E&R laundry service.
GUIDELINES:
We will expect all visitors to comply with our face covering, hand sanitizing, and social distancing guidelines. Specifically, we expect that all campus visitors and students will keep a mask on at all times (except in their private room), use hand sanitizer or wash hands often (especially when handling shared surfaces), and maintain at least 6 feet of distance except when necessary (such as during the registration process).
In an effort to limit the number of persons moving in and out of dormitory spaces, boarding students may bring ONE GUEST into the dormitory to help unload and unpack.
To comply with the Massachusetts travel restrictions, a parent/guardian/family member may enter the state to drop off a student and must immediately leave campus and the state to meet the exemption of transitory travel unless they meet certain exemptions. If a parent is staying overnight, they are subject to the travel order, which requires a 14 day quarantine or proof of a negative test result (within the past 72 hours). Click on the link above for details.
Once students are settled into their dormitory rooms, they will begin their quarantine period. We will connect as a community through online gatherings, events, and programming.
Thank you in advance for your efforts and care in keeping our community safe. The only way we will be able to keep each other healthy and safe for on campus learning and programming will be compliance by and cooperation of all members of our community.
We know you have questions regarding housing, house counseling teams, what to bring, etc. We will be in touch again soon!
Take care,
JKE Jennifer Karlen Elliott
