Info about WCH Oregon22 at the UO

HELLO, World.

Meet OREGON.

What You Need to Know

With less than 45 days until athletes, media, volunteers, and spectators begin to arrive for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, you will see more activity on campus in preparation.
Traffic Information
In late June and July, streets in and around campus will be significantly impacted in preparation for and during WCH Oregon22. A full list of road impact dates is available on the Oregon22 website.
Starting as early as June 28 (see map and exact dates below) road impacts will include:
  • Agate Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Franklin to East 18th Avenue. Starting July 10, Agate Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic inside the secure perimeter roughly from East 15th Avenue to East 18th Avenue.
  • University Street and East 13th Avenue will have restricted access and be one way, entering East 13th Avenue from Agate Street and exiting University Street at East 18th Avenue. East 18th Avenue will have restricted access and be one way going west from Agate Street to University Street.
  • Sections of East 15th Avenue, Moss Street, and East 17th Avenue will also have restricted access.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed in front of the Autzen Stadium complex for the road races. Traffic will be rerouted on Leo Harris Parkway.
  • Outdoor Program patrons will be able to access the barn to pick up or drop off gear. The process and protocol will be shared directly by the Outdoor Program with patrons.
Parking and Alternative Transportation
UO employees and students are encouraged to use alternative transportation such as bike, shuttle, or LTD bus during WCH Oregon22.
  • The university is retaining approximately one-third of its parking supply for university use during the WCH Oregon22 event, while approximately two-thirds of the parking supply is needed for this large event. It's critical that each of us do our part to support one another and find ways, when possible, to avoid driving to campus alone.
  • There will be additional bike parking and LTD service during the event.
  • We do not recommend having someone drop you off on the restricted roads inside campus boundaries.
  • Additional options for off-site shuttle options and alternative transportation are being finalized and will be provided later this month.
Vehicle Access Passes
  • Individuals needing to use restricted roads for university business will receive Vehicle Access Passes (VAPs). More information on the timeline and process for obtaining VAPs for road access will be shared in the next update.
  • A traffic control manager will be stationed at East 13th Avenue to check passes and provide access for people with university business.
  • Transportation Services will email VAP information to departments and individuals with reserved parking spaces.
  • The Olum and Moss Street Childcare centers will work with parents to provide VAPs and information for pick up and drop off. More information will be available after June 20.
Cybersecurity
The Information Security Office asks all employees - even those not directly supporting the event - to help ensure a secure and successful WCH Oregon22. With the world's attention on the UO, the university may see an increase in phishing and other cyberattacks before and during the event. Take care and be vigilant. The new UO Cybersecurity Basics training provides a 20-minute overview of key security actions people can take.
Building Access
For the month of July, Agate Hall will be accessible by credential access only and the Law School Library will be accessible remotely only. All other UO libraries will remain open with summer hours. While many public buildings such as the museums and EMU dining venues will remain open, before heading to campus this summer, check with individual buildings for current hours and accessibility.
July On-Campus Work
With significant campus impacts to parking, building access, and roads expected, employees and supervisors are encouraged to work together to determine on campus or alternative work schedules during WCH Oregon22.
