| Partnering to support your student's success
|
| |
|
Denison's Family Guide is both a source of campus news (there are really cool things happening here) and a resource to help your student flourish. Ultimately, we want to help your student take control and build their own unique experience — and we know your partnership is essential to making that happen.

Thanks for supporting your students! |
Dear Denison Families,
April has been full of celebrations and so many wonderful moments. Here are just a few of the highlights:
|
|
|
-
The Eisner Center has been bustling with activity — an outstanding performance of She Loves Me (featured above) and 39 Steps plus ensembles, concerts, and senior recitals.
- We celebrated 90 seniors who had been roommates at The Four Year Roommate Dinner.
- A solar eclipse viewing party
-
200+ students and 80 alumni gathered for ReMix+Women
- We honored 8 President's Medalists.
-
Our spring athletic teams have dominated in so many competitions (read more below!)
- We dedicated Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium, our new facility for lacrosse and soccer.
-
Seniors gathered for Countdown to Commencement to mark their final 30 days on The Hill.
-
We celebrated the end of the academic year with carnival rides, student performances, and a cookout; this past weekend, we had an all-campus concert. On Monday, we celebrated the last day of classes with water balloons, outdoor games, food trucks, and a late-night breakfast.
- Students have been traveling to national conferences to present their research with faculty.
|
In short, it has been a wonderful month to conclude a truly remarkable year.
As we wrap up the year, we thank you for all you do for our students — cheering for our athletes, supporting the arts, being on campus for events, welcoming your student's friends and classmates into your home during breaks and long weekends, offering internships to Denison students, philanthropically supporting the college, and most of all, thank you for sharing your student with us. Their ideas, their energy and passion, and their care and commitment to one another make our campus a better, more vibrant place.
In April, we hosted so many admitted high school seniors on campus, and their parents regularly remarked on the warmth and kindness they perceived in our student body. We agree. So thank you for raising such outstanding humans and for supporting them and their success at Denison!
We appreciate and value our partnership with you! Thank you for being such an important part of our Denison community.
Julie Tucker '09, Director of Family Engagement

We hosted ReMix+Women, a conference bringing together 80 Denison alums and 200+ female students.
Here are some quotes from your students about what the experience meant to them:
Because of attending ReMix+Women, I feel...
|
- more confident that I can succeed in my career goals and was able to tangibly experience the vast alumni support system I have as a Denison student.
- more confident in reaching out to alumni and asking them for advice.
- an extra special thank you to all the Denison women who came before me. Now, more than ever, I am so grateful to part of such an accomplished community!

From Knowlton: Intentionally Using the Summer |
Encourage your student to think about how they will use their summer. Ask them what internships, research experiences, or other opportunities they are considering. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our Denison Edge Summer Virtual Programs to build skills in marketing, finance, and business. Encourage them to utilize the Knowlton Center in the next few days to discuss opportunities. They can also use our Ask a Denisonian platform to connect with alumni.
The Denison Edge Business Immersion program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with a practical and engaging dive into the world of business. This program is an exceptional, 6-week opportunity for students from all fields of study. Business Immersion runs from June 10 to July 17 in Columbus and applications close on May 24.

A Summer Opportunity Beyond The Hill: NYC, DC, Chicago |
Will your student be in New York, Chicago, or D.C. this summer? If so, encourage them to join Denison on June 26 or 27 for a special event. On June 26, we're hosting Denison Night in the City! In NYC, we're watching a Mets-Yankees Game at Citi Field; in D.C., we're going to spend time at Top Golf; and in Chicago, we're headed down a river cruise.
On June 27, in all three cities, we invite students to join us for Beyond The Hill, an evening of networking, workshops, and professional development, designed especially for current students and young alumni. Students will have an opportunity to meet young alumni, learn about their career paths, and design possibilities for the next five years of their life.

Eight seniors received the President's Medal, the highest honor Denison bestows upon a student. Candidates must embody some combination of the following: service to the community, contribution to the arts, enlargement of the community’s global perspective, athletic fitness and achievement, leadership ability and contribution to community discourse.

In Music Theatre's production of She Loves Me, students performed to a packed house at each of their four performances. When two feuding shop clerks, Georg and Amalia, began falling in love with their respective pen pals, hijinks ensued on their months-long journey to discover that sometimes love appears in the most unlikely of places.

We dedicated Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium with the lacrosse teams in April. The new stadium is home to our men's and women's lacrosse programs and men's and women's soccer programs.
Another dedication will take place in the fall with our soccer teams.
