Extemp Final Round Breakdown Videos

In this new video, two-time national champion McKinley Paltzik explains the strategies and techniques behind her 2023 International Extemp speech answering the question, How should the world combat the rise of new infectious diseases due to climate change?
It's difficult for novice and intermediate students to see the gears turning behind the polished presentation in a national final round. This video joins one other video from McKinley and six other video breakdowns from two-time United States Extemp champion Jackie Wei that explain the strategies behind prepping and delivering a great Extemp speech.

Teaching Interpers About Theme
|
It's important for interpers to understand theme as they approach their cuttings. A simple way to give students practice identifying themes is to analyze animated shorts. Using both class discussion and small group work, students can watch the shorts Dust Buddies, Runaway, or a video of your choosing and discuss their thoughts on the theme(s). This activity is included in lesson 4 of both the high school and middle school Start Here lesson plans for Interp.
