We at LEAD help students to develop as effective, ethical leaders through a series of workshops, conferences, classes, speakers, dialogues, and retreats. Our programs provide opportunities to develop a strong sense of self, augment critical thinking and interpersonal skills, develop global and cultural competencies, and cultivate organizational skills for transition into the professional world.

Alumni Leadership Speaker Series (Virtual)

Join the LEAD Office as we host the Virtual Alumni Leadership Speaker Series on November 29th featuring some amazing Mason Alumni. The Speaker Series will focus on the question: How can understanding your leadership style and strengths, best support and influence your specific area of study? We are excited to have Mason alum from a variety of different majors (ex: science, business, education, and music). Mason alum will also share personal stories and experiences about how their campus involvement and engagement impacted and connected with their field of study and career aspirations.

One of the main goals of this program is to have an engaging discussion between Mason’s international and domestic students around a very important topic: Mass Shootings.

Title: “Mass Shootings: Cross-Cultural Perspectives” with Professor Al Fuertes & Brian Royer  
Description: Different definitions of "mass shootings" are often debated by politicians and world leaders; however, what can't be argued is the fact that gun shootings and gun deaths have become an epidemic worldwide. How are "mass shootings" defined? What side of the gun debate issue do you support? What skills can we acquire to help address the many factors contributing to gun violence? During this interactive program, we discuss how the United States' view on guns is similar & different from other countries/cultures. We will discuss the many factors contributing to gun violence and ways you can become active in your community to help reduce gun violence and make the world a safer place to live.

The LEAD Office is excited to announce the launch of our first ever Student VIRTUAL Leadership Certificate Series for the 2022-2023 academic year.  The Student Leadership Certificate Series is designed to provide students with the opportunities to:
  • Connect with other students around various topics of leadership in a cohort experience
  • Develop a variety of different leadership skills and strengthen one's own personal leadership skills
  • Identify ways you can help make a positive change in our communities
  • Develop an understanding of one's personal leadership values are and how they influence one's leadership style
  • Engage in a variety of leadership sessions that focus on leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and social change

Leadership Connection Cohort (Virtual)


On Wednesdays, from 12:00PM - 12:45PM (on Zoom)

Want to gain leadership experience? Interested in learning about cutting-edge leadership trends relevant to all careers? Join us for the Leadership Connection Cohort Series! This is a three-session series where students and staff can learn about various leadership topics that can be applied to current and future courses, careers, and social change. Participants that attend all 3 sessions will receive a certificate of completion, in addition to a t-shirt!
Join us for Leadership Connection Hours, a 3-part series with each hour focusing on a different aspect of leadership. Our upcoming and final session for the semester is on Wednesday November 16th. On Wednesday November 16th we will focus on “Mental Health & Leadership” which is centered around creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment in which people feel comfortable talking about mental health and how that can affect your own mental health as a leader. 
For students: This program will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of leadership and offer ways in which you can incorporate leadership behaviors within your own life. Through this program, you will be able to gain leadership experience in a non-positional setting that will also be beneficial for professional experience and resume-building.
For staff: This program will be beneficial to learn from and engage with students from varying backgrounds and perspectives. Discussions can offer new ways of thinking that can be considered for future courses and can be applied to your own department’s leadership culture.

INTS 404 - Ethics and Leadership Class (Section 001)


Spring 2023

Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM


Students in this class will deepen and broaden their learning about theories, models, and constructs related to the study and practice of ethics and leadership. Students will learn to better understand themselves as ethical leaders, develop ethical decision-making strategies, communicate effectively in diverse group settings, value civic engagement and actively apply ethical leadership skills. This highly-interactive learning community includes experiential learning activities and discussions that connect formal knowledge with real world experiences. This four-credit course is offered through the School of Integrative Studies (SIS) and is part of the Leadership major and minor, but you do not need to be a part of the major or minor to join this course!

Mayuri Bhattacharjee

Kolkata, West Bengal, India 


Mayuri Bhattacharjee is a women’s health educator and trainer, who is an exemplar of citizen activism and persistence to make a difference and promote health. “She launched the Dignity in Floods campaign (Dignity Disasters) and started pushing hard for change.” After seeing that there were no programs or relief for women’s menstrual health in the aftermath of 2017-2018 floods in India, Bhattacharjee was determined to change women’s situation as she passionately believed that they deserved better. After many efforts and petitions, “the government of India finally recognized the menstrual health rights of women during floods and ensured all flood reliefs camps would now be stocked with sanitary pads.She works as a humanitarian to help and inspire others and get them involved in actions that will tackle social issues and transform societies.
