We hope you have enjoyed a restful break and are ready for the spring semester.

The Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships (OGSAF) welcomes our incoming students to the George Washington University. We look forward to supporting you throughout your time as a graduate student!

Q: How do I obtain an assistantship position?

A: All assistantships are managed directly by departments, so we recommend reaching out to your department to learn about position availability. You can find contact information for your department on their website. If your department does not offer assistantships, you can reach out to other departments that align with your academic background and interests.

Q: Whom do I contact with questions about my current funding award?

A: Most awards are administered directly by your school or department rather than OGSAF. Please check your award letter and reach out to the contact person listed with any questions. The contact person is usually listed in one of the last paragraphs of the award letter.  

Q: Whom do I contact with questions about my bill (i.e. how to pay, refund requests, setting up a payment plan, etc.)?

A: Please contact the Student Accounts Office for all billing-related inquiries. 

The monthly payment plan enables students or their authorized users to pay current fall semester tuition and fees in equal payments throughout the semester. The plan is interest-free as long as monthly payments are made on time and in full.

 Application Deadline (for students beginning graduate school in Spring 2024): January 26, 2024

Award Details: 10% discount on tuition for the duration of a GW master's degree or graduate certificate program for recent GW alumni.

Eligibility Requirements (for students beginning graduate school in Spring 2024): 

We are excited to announce that all of our award competitions for the next academic year (2024-2025) are open! Please see a basic list of eligibility requirements for each award below. You can find the full eligibility requirement list, an overview of the award, and application instructions on our website (linked on each competition's name).

Presidential Fellowship

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current GW Master's students who are interested in enrolling in a GW doctoral program beginning in Fall 2024.

Wolcott Foundation Fellowships (deadline extended!)

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Prospective Master's students who intend a career in government service and will be studying in the School of Business, Elliott School of International Affairs, or Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Administration. U.S. Citizens only.

D.C. Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current or prospective Master's students in American Studies, History or Museum Studies. US Citizens only.

George and May Shiers Memorial Fund Fellowship

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current GW graduate students enrolled in one of the following programs: Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration (TSPPPA), the School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA), and the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (History, Economics, Political Science or American Studies programs).

Loughran Graduate Fellowship

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current or prospective GW graduate students in the School of Business or Law School from the DC Metro Area. 

Phi Delta Gamma Scholarship Fund

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current GW graduate students who have completed at least 9 credits in a graduate degree program based on the Foggy Bottom campus (Law, SMHS, and Milken students are not eligible).

Scottish Rite Fellowships

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current or prospective GW graduate students with familial/personal affiliation with a U.S. Scottish Rite organization. Studying in CCAS, ESIA, GWSB, SEAS, GSEHD, CPS, or Milken on the Foggy Bottom campus. US Citizens only.

Walter Green Fellowships

Basic Eligibility Requirements*: Current or prospective Master's students who intend a career in public service or government and work in a paid job or internship for at least 15 hours a week. Studying in CCAS, ESIA, GWSB (excluding Executive programs), CPS or GSEHD on the Foggy Bottom campus.
