ACE COMMENTS ON ADMINISTRATION'S PLAN FOR FREE SPEECH
Several groups representing U.S. higher education institutions are rebuking the Trump administration's proposal that is aimed at punishing colleges for violating student's free speech rights. While they all supported the goals of promoting free speech, they warned that the proposal could lead to unintended consequences on campuses.
Among the groups, the American Council on Education (ACE), which Duke is a member, commented that the proposal creates the, "very real possibility that the Department of Education could terminate federal funding based on an isolated federal or state court decision stemming from a single speech-related incident occurring on campus."
