The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District Board of Directors recently held its annual planning session following the Caucus of Electors to discuss priorities, challenges and opportunities that will help shape the district’s future. The session provided an opportunity for board members to evaluate current initiatives, identify emerging needs and establish strategic direction for the coming year.

Key discussion topics included: 

One of the most significant topics discussed was the growing impact of homelessness on district businesses and the broader community. Board members expressed concerns related to public safety, quality of life, tourism, economic activity and the well-being of individuals experiencing homelessness. The conversation focused on identifying practical and compassionate solutions that balance community needs with human dignity while supporting long-term community stability.

As a result of these discussions, the board approved additional funding to expand the CID’s Community Ambassador Patrols beginning June 1. The enhanced patrol presence is intended to improve safety, visibility and responsiveness throughout the district.

In addition to addressing challenges, the board explored new opportunities to strengthen the district’s visibility, economic vitality and community engagement. Ideas discussed included expanding business promotion efforts, creating additional public events and activations, increasing partnerships with tourism and hospitality stakeholders and growing the CID’s digital presence through enhanced marketing initiatives.

The importance of implementing “quick win” projects was also emphasized by the board as it can deliver visible improvements, build momentum for larger initiatives and encourage future investment. Potential projects discussed included seasonal and holiday decorations, decorative tree lighting, painted crosswalks, public murals and art installations, enhanced lighting, improved signage and additional trash receptacles. Other concepts included seasonal landscaping, flower plantings, pressure washing, and beautification efforts to enhance the district’s appearance and visitor experience.

Board members expressed strong interest in exploring how public art could support business investment, improve the district’s image, enhance public safety and attract visitors. Staff was directed to further evaluate opportunities related to lighting, landscaping, holiday and seasonal décor, business pop-up activations, pedestrian enhancements and partnerships with Create Gwinnett and other arts organizations.

Since the planning session, Gwinnett County has approved the creation of a Homelessness Task Force, and Gwinnett’s CIDs will have representation on the committee. This appointment will provide the CID with a direct voice in countywide discussions and help ensure the district remains actively engaged in developing meaningful, long-term solutions.

The planning session reinforced the board’s shared vision for a more vibrant, connected and prosperous district. As these initiatives continue to advance, residents, businesses and visitors can look forward to continued investment and positive transformation throughout the Gwinnett Place area.

As part of the Board’s commitment to proactive planning and collaboration, regular board meetings will now be held on the third Thursday of each month at 8 a.m.

Help local students start the upcoming school year equipped for success by participating in the Gwinnett County Police Department's School Supply Drive.

The department is currently collecting new backpacks and school supplies through July 17. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Central Precinct, conveniently located in the district.

Every donation helps provide students with the tools they need to begin the school year prepared and confident.
