SCHOOL NOTES FROM MRS. WOODMAN
Dear Families and Friends,
Happy 2019! The students are back to work on new skills and projects, starting the second semester with positive energy. Middle school science classes are engaging in real world problem-solving with Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision projects. Greek mythology is inspiring the sixth grade literature class. Kindergarten mathematicians learned about even and odd numbers this week. Our fourth graders are busy making commercials, ads, and trailers for southeastern U.S. landmarks this morning. P.E. classes are gearing up for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest. CKS is a busy place for learning!
I want to recognize three accomplished writers in our eighth grade class. Arin Nipp won 2nd place in the 6th – 8th grade category of the civics essay contest conducted by the Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s Office! Arin has won $250 in scholarship money through TNStars 529 College Savings Program and a trip to the State Capitol. Ann Gailor Strobel received notice of the publication of her poem, “Dear Ms. Alicia,” in Futures, the 2018 poetry collection of The America Library of Poetry. Her poem was inspired by her personal experience with a foster sibling. Billy Fite’s history essay on Women’s Suffrage for the DAR contest won in the Fort Nashboro chapter and is headed for the district level contest. Congratulations Arin, Ann Gailor, and Billy!
Second quarter report cards will be in Friday Folders this week for parents to review, sign, and return. Thank you, parents, for conversing with your children about their work and effort, and supporting them daily as scholars.
Look for 2019-2020 tuition and re-enrollment information being sent home this week. There are changes in the procedures for tuition, incidental payments, and application for tuition assistance. The Catholic Schools Office has asked that all parochial schools in the diocese begin using
FACTS Tuition Management and FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions after reading the accompanying materials. There is also a FACTS Customer Service number you can call for questions - 866-441-4637. We want to make the transition as smooth as possible for our families.
We are looking ahead to Catholic Schools Week at the end of this month. The faculty and CSW committee is planning a memorable week. Check out the school
Sign Up Genius to see how you can be part of this celebration. A successful week depends upon our dedicated parent volunteers! Save the date for the next presentation in the Parent Partnership Series, which will be hosted by faculty members on January 31 to demonstrate for parents the use of various technology tools used with students in their classes. Parents who attend can earn special passes for their students!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sherry Woodman
