Message from the Associate Vice President
and Director of Extension
This week, I had the opportunity to attend the UArizona Juneteenth celebration at Centennial Hall. Honored guests included Dr. Bernice King and Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz. They discussed the importance of the Juneteenth celebration and shared how their families celebrated the event. There were wonderful and insightful discussions, and I had a chance to meet some old friends and make some new ones. Also, yesterday we celebrated the retirement of Andy Medina. Andy has been with the University for over 40 years. I want to thank him for all his service to Arizona Cooperative Extension and wish him all the best as he starts planning new and exciting adventures. Thank you, Andy!

Cooperative Extension and the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department are hosting a seed bomb-making workshop next month. The seed bombs - balls of compost, clay, and seeds – will be spread on county park land to increase native-species biodiversity.

WRRC Annual Conference
We are pleased to offer a $30 student registration rate. The normal registration rate of $130 ($75 for a single day) is now in effect.
For those who cannot make it to Tucson, we are offering free non-interactive livestreaming of the event. This year's conference program aims to address the pressing water resources challenges currently facing Arizona and the region by bringing forward ideas that offer pathways to water security for all.
The two-day, in-person program features over 50 speakers and presenters covering a diverse range of panel discussions, keynotes, and poster presentations. Day 1 will conclude with an evening reception where attendees can continue their conversations while enjoying some refreshments and a non-hosted bar. We invite you to join us to engage in robust solutions-focused discussions.

Extension Hispanic Needs Assessment Survey Available
University of Arizona Cooperative Extension is collaborating on a Renewable Resources Extension Act funded needs assessment for Hispanic adults living in Arizona, Florida, and New Mexico. The goal of the collaboration is to understand this group's needs while building a national Spanish language Cooperative Extension website.
If you are Hispanic or have Hispanic stakeholders, please take or send the survey, which is intended only for Hispanic adults living in Arizona, Florida, or New Mexico.

Submit a Poster!
Arizona Cooperative Extension Annual ConferenceAugust 2-4
The 2023 Annual Arizona Extension Conference will be August 2-4 in Tucson on the University of Arizona Main Campus. This year's conference theme is Building the Future of Extension Through Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration.
Poster Session Submissions - Posters can be on any Arizona Extension-related topic, including, but not limited to, community issues, extension initiatives, programs, or research projects. Posters presented at other conferences are eligible for display. Poster space is limited. Posters will be accepted in the order they are received until space capacity is reached. Click here to submit a poster. Provide the title, authors, a short (150-word maximum) abstract, the style (hanging vs. tabletop), and the approximate size of your poster. Deadline: July 3, 11:59 p.m. Your submission will be confirmed by Friday, July 7.

Climate Science Working Group Needs Your Help The Cooperative Extension Climate Science Working Group wants to know about the current level of interest and involvement in climate change-related training, programming, and collaboration within Extension. Your responses will be used to guide climate change program development and better integration of climate change information across Extension programs. Even if you feel that your role within Extension is not a “climate” role, we encourage you to submit a response.
The information will also help the UArizona Extension Climate Science Working Group leverage resources and opportunities to better serve Extension and Arizona stakeholders.
The survey's introduction page contains more information about confidentiality, how your responses will be used and stored, and your rights.
What: There are 27 quick, simple questions that should take 10 – 15 minutes to complete.
Who: You must work within Arizona Cooperative Extension, be 18 or older, and read English.

Job OpeningAssistant/Associate Agent Position (ANR), Pima County - This continuing eligible Assistant/Associate Extension Agent position will work with a dynamic team of professionals developing and delivering community outreach programs that provide research-based, objective informal agriculture and natural resources education in Pima County, Arizona. The primary focus of the position will be to develop and deliver education and assistance to small-scale and urban growers in Pima County, Arizona. In addition, the agent will engage and collaborate with urban food systems work conducted at the Pima County Cooperative Extension (PCCE), The Garden Kitchen, and 4-H farm-focused youth workforce development at PCCE Tucson Village Farm. The Agent will also oversee the Master Gardener Program located at PCCE as well as other natural resources programming related to the environment and natural systems. In addition to outreach, the agent will develop and conduct applied research, produce scholarly Extension publications, present at conferences and meetings, and pursue grant funding to support research and program work. This position is administratively and programmatically responsible to the County Extension Director and the Director of Arizona Cooperative Extension and is located at Pima County Cooperative Extension.
